What You Will Do
The Physical and Chemical Spectroscopy Group in the Chemistry Division (C-PCS) is seeking an outstanding post-bachelors student with a STEM science degree to join our experimental efforts in spectroscopy of molecular systems. The C-PCS Group addresses national and international problems by exploiting the measurement and diagnostic power of light. The prospective candidate will primarily be involved in measuring high-resolution spectral data with multiple types of spectral instrumentation both in the lab and in the field. They will also be expected to perform analysis on the collected data to draw scientific conclusions and participate in laboratory and field validation experiments. #chemistry, #cpcs, #chemstudent

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
An experimental background in spectroscopy of materials in either solid, liquid, and/or gas. Familiarity with spectrometer instrumentation such as FTIR, UV-Vis, and/or Raman.

Desired Qualifications:
Experience with molecular spectroscopy and data analysis, analysis programs such as Origin or Python programming (or equivalent languages), written and oral communication skills, outdoor work experience, and the ability to work in a diverse team environment.
Education:
A B.S. degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Engineering. This is expected to be a 1-2 year position. At the conclusion of a successful term, interns may be considered for a staff position.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
