The Educational Aide, Biology Lab position in the Natural Sciences Department provides a great opportunity to get hands-on experience in a laboratory setting, learn about safety, lab equipment, and making solutions as well as working in a fast-paced professional environment.
Job Description
Responsibilities and Duties Include:
  • Learns and follows lab safety rules.
  • Serves faculty and students with all in-class technical issues.
  • Prepares all equipment, solutions and perishables necessary for biology labs.
  • Reads lab manuals and protocols.
  • Learns the experiments that are performed by students to be able to troubleshoot.
  • Sets up and takes down all biology labs on a weekly or biweekly basis.
  • Maintains clean environment in classrooms and lab prep areas.
  • Leads by example and help train incoming lab aides.
  • Assists faculty in safety attire/food checks prior to labs.
  • Lifts and unpacks packages.
  • Helps with operation of instructor computers and projectors.
  • Performs duties with professional demeanor and courtesy to all.
  • Works as a member of a diverse team.
  • Strictly honors the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal and college regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.
  • Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Academic Lab Manager, Biology
QUALIFICATIONS
Required: The Educational Aide must be a currently enrolled Santa Fe College student, in good academic and behavioral standing, taking six (6) or more credit hours.
Preferred: Students who have completed laboratory coursework and with prior experience working in a lab.
Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted. Must maintain a 2.5 GPA.

  • Problem Solving - proven skills in identifying issues, determining their cause, developing creative solutions, and following through with implementing resolutions.
  • Detail Oriented - Proven accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Multi-task - Ability to expeditiously organize, coordinate, manage, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously to swiftly assess a situation, determine a logical course of action, and apply the appropriate response.
