Job description

Position Summary

The National Account Development Representative is responsible for supporting existing customer relationships while identifying opportunities to grow MSI's business within assigned accounts.

This is a hybrid sales role consisting of approximately 80% inside sales (in office) activity and 20% field sales activity. The successful candidate will manage customer inquiries, quotations, and account support while utilizing sales data, customer activity, and CRM tools to identify and develop new opportunities.

Field visits are expected to support qualified opportunities and strategic account growth initiatives, not routine courtesy calls.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Support & Sales

  • Respond to customer inquiries via phone and email.
  • Prepare quotations and process sales orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Assist customers with product selection, technical questions, and alternative solutions.
  • Resolve customer issues and follow through to completion.
  • Deliver a high level of responsiveness and customer service.

Opportunity Development

  • Identify opportunities to expand MSI's product penetration within existing customer accounts.
  • Review quote activity, purchasing trends, and customer buying patterns to uncover growth opportunities.
  • Develop relationships with key contacts to identify project opportunities, application requirements, and growth potential.
  • Develop and maintain relationships that position MSI for future business growth.

CRM & Pipeline Management

  • Maintain accurate customer records, activities, tasks, and opportunities within our CRM.
  • Document meaningful customer interactions and opportunities.
  • Manage opportunities through defined sales pipeline stages.
  • Complete follow-up activities and maintain strong pipeline discipline.
  • Ensure opportunities remain active and progressing toward a defined outcome.

Field Activity

  • Conduct customer visits, branch visits, and end-user meetings as needed.
  • Plan field activity around qualified opportunities, account development objectives, and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Document visit results, observations, and next steps within CRM.
  • Participate in trade shows, customer events, and industry meetings when appropriate.

Team Collaboration

  • Partner with internal sales, operations, purchasing, and management teams to support customer needs.
  • Coordinate account strategies and opportunity development efforts.
  • Share market intelligence, competitive information, and customer feedback.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or the Google Office Suite, including Excel/Sheets.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated with strong follow-through and attention to detail.

Preferred

  • 2+ years of experience in industrial sales, distribution, manufacturing, customer service, or related business-to-business environments.
  • Experience with CRM systems and sales pipeline management.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Epicor Prophet 21.
  • Proficient in excel/google sheets
  • Mechanical aptitude or familiarity with industrial products.
  • Knowledge of pipe fittings, flanges, valves, nipples, or related industrial products.
