Job description

Astro Digital designs, builds, and operates a diverse range of small satellite systems supporting space-based turnkey missions for several business applications, including earth observation, communications, in-orbit demonstrations, risk reduction, science, and exploration. Astro Digital is headquartered in Littleton, Colorado with roughly 100 employees and infrastructure around the globe.

Position Summary

The Spacecraft Structural Engineer is responsible for assisting with static and dynamic structural analysis of all classes of Astro Digital bus. The work consists primarily of finite element mesh creation in FEMAP, running cases via NASTRAN, and performing related structural analyses such as bolted joint margins.

The ideal candidate is a meticulous, self-motivated mechanical engineer with some experience building finite element models. He or she would have an interest in developing their skills in applied structural engineering.

Minimum Qualifications
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or closely related field
  • >6 months of experience building and analyzing finite element models (coursework will be considered)
  • Some hardware experience, preferably in a structural environment
  • Self-motivated work ethic with a desire to learn new aspects of structural analysis and testing
  • Good written, verbal, and virtual communication skills
  • Willingness to travel several times a year for vibration testing
Preferred Qualifications
  • Some familiarity with FEMAP or similar pre/post processor
  • Comfort executing NASTRAN solutions
  • Some experience with CAD modeling (Solidworks, Onshape)
  • Possesses a solid understanding of thermal-structural effects

This position requires access to export-controlled commodities, technical data, technology, software, and services. U.S. citizenship, U.S. legal permanent resident status, or protected person status under 22 CFR §120.15 and 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3) is required.

Job Type: Full Time
Location: Hybrid Remote (2 days in office/wk) based in Littleton, CO.
Annual Salary Range: $95k-115k depending on experience.
