About This Role

Magic Carpet Academy is looking for a dependable and flexible Floater to support our classrooms throughout the day. The Floater assists teachers with supervision, classroom routines, transitions, meals, nap time, outdoor play, cleaning, and other daily activities as needed.


The ideal candidate is caring, energetic, professional, and able to work with children of different ages. This position requires someone who can follow classroom schedules, support active supervision, communicate respectfully with staff and children, and step in wherever help is needed.

Responsibilities include assisting with classroom coverage, helping children during meals and bathroom routines, supporting safe indoor and outdoor play, maintaining a clean and organized environment, and following all MCA policies and North Carolina child care rules.


Applicants must be reliable, patient, and willing to work as part of a team in a busy childcare setting. Childcare experience is preferred but not required.


What You'll Do

Key Responsibilities โ€“ Floater at MCA

  • Assist in different classrooms as needed throughout the day.
  • Help teachers supervise children during indoor play, outdoor play, meals, nap time, bathroom routines, and transitions.
  • Maintain active supervision at all times by positioning yourself where children can be seen and heard.
  • Support teachers with daily classroom routines and schedules.
  • Help children with handwashing, toileting, diapering support, and other self-help skills as appropriate.
  • Assist with meal and snack service, including setup, cleanup, and proper sanitation.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment.
  • Sanitize toys, tables, chairs, and classroom materials as directed.
  • Support childrenโ€™s play by engaging with them, talking with them, and encouraging positive interactions.
  • Assist with classroom transitions, such as moving children to the playground, bathroom, meals, nap, or dismissal.
  • Provide coverage when teachers need breaks, planning time, or assistance.
  • Follow all MCA policies, classroom procedures, and North Carolina child care rules.
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with teachers, children, families, and administration.
  • Report any safety concerns, behavior concerns, injuries, or unusual observations to the lead teacher or director immediately.
  • Avoid personal phone use and personal conversations while supervising children.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff.

Requirements

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required

  • Previous experience working with children in a licensed child care center, school, or similar setting preferred.
  • Ability to supervise and engage children of different ages.
  • Basic understanding of child development, classroom routines, and safe supervision practices preferred.
  • Ability to follow directions from lead teachers and administration.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Dependable, flexible, patient, and willing to assist wherever needed.
  • Must clear a full background check.
  • Must pass health screening.

Other Requirements

Education: High School Diploma or GED minimum.

Physical: Ability to lift up to 30 pounds, stand for long periods of time, sit on the floor with children, bend, kneel, walk with children indoors and outdoors, and move as the position requires.

Schedule: Must be flexible and able to assist in different classrooms as needed.

  • Current Infant/Child CPR and First Aid certification.

  • Ability to help with classroom activities, art projects, music, story time, and outdoor play.

  • Bilingual abilities, especially English and Spanish.

About Us

Magic Carpet Academy is a Child Care Center in Wilson, NC opening in September 2021. The center will offer child care services for children ages 0 to 5 using the Experience Early Learning Curriculum. In addition to excellent childcare and high quality early education, the center will focus on cultural integration which aims to develop globally competitive individuals to become future ambassadors. The center will actively engage children in learning using the multi-faceted indoor classrooms and the nature outdoor learning environment.


Mrs. Reynalin Barnes, Owner and Site Director of Magic Carpet Academy, is backed by 20 years of experience in education, both in teaching and administration. Mrs. Barnes has a Masters Degree in Mathematics Teaching and a Diploma in School Administration. She possesses a license as a teacher, a NC K-12 Principal and was named Teacher of Year in 2009 and 2012. She is also a Level III Early Childhood and School Age Administrator.
