Job description

Reporting to the Mutuel Manager, Mutuel Clerks/Teller to provide customer services to external and internal guest.

Essential Functions

  • Consistently demonstrates superior customer service skills to external and internal guests.
  • Maintains upbeat, positive attitude, friendly and helpful demeanor, positive energy and enthusiasm from one interaction to the next.
  • Utilizes smiles and frequent eye contact and friendly tone of voice to project warmth and friendliness.
  • Creates an atmosphere of luck and celebrates customer wins.
  • Is ready to serve and well informed of daily facility hours of operation, promotional programs and any other relevant valuable guest information; builds relationships by greeting guests with a warm, friendly verbal greeting.
  • Anticipates needs of the guest and provides fast, flawless service. Executes all service programs to assure prioritization of service to very best guests.
  • Promotes JACK Club programs and JACK Club registration and membership. Provides a warm farewell and thanks guests for visiting.
  • Cash and sell bet tickets to the public.
  • Provide good public relations in the form of friendly, courteous, responsive, and accurate assistance during all customer service transactions.
  • Provide educational assistance to new patrons.
  • Ensures compliance with the federal currency transaction reporting requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Promotes outstanding customer relations.
  • Ensures compliance with Ohio Racing Commission regulations and other gaming regulations as required.
  • Ensures adherence to departmental/company policies and procedures. Implements the departmental internal controls and security.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be able to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time (4 hours).
  • Must be able to maneuver throughout all areas of the property and from floor to floor either by stairways (minimum of 20 steps) or escalator.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.; and, have the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop and kneel. 
  • Respond to visual and aural cues. 
  • Must have the manual dexterity to operate a computer and other necessary office equipment. 
  • Must be able to tolerate areas containing dust, loud noises and bright lights.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage several projects, and not be frustrated by changing priorities and unforeseen obstacles to achieving objectives. 
  • Ability to speak distinctly and persuasively. 

Education and Experience 

  • Very strong customer relations skills.
  • Solid understanding of the pari-mutuel customer’s motivations and expectations.
  • Previous pari-mutuel mutual clerk experience preferred.
  • Is fluent on Microsoft Office software products, and is viewed as an outstanding team player.
  • Is able to work in smoke filled environment, and is able to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.

Required Certification/License  

  • Must be able to obtain an Ohio Racing Commission license
