PERFORMING ARTS TEACHER (GRADES 6-8) (SY2026-2027)
Terms of Employment:  Full-time, 10-month
Reports to: Principal

Job Summary: Odyssey Charter School is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Middle School Performing Arts Teacher to inspire students through meaningful experiences in the performing arts. 

The ideal candidate will provide instruction in a variety of performing arts disciplines, including theater, music, performance, movement, public speaking, and stage production. This position is designed to accommodate candidates with strengths in either dramatic arts or music while fostering creativity, collaboration, self-expression, and confidence in students. 

The Performing Arts Teacher will cultivate an engaging learning environment where students develop artistic skills, appreciation for the arts, and the ability to communicate effectively through performance.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must hold a valid, active Delaware Teaching License and Certificate in required content area in accordance with 14 Del. C. 1531.
  • Successful completion of Praxis II exams.
  • Proficient in English Language, both written and spoken.
  • Experience teaching in relevant Grades in an immersion or foreign language program preferred
  • Relevant teaching experience preferred
  • Experience teaching students with diverse needs
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
  • A global citizenship and collaborative mindset
  • Experience working in a multicultural/multilingual environment


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Instruction & Student Learning 

  • Deliver engaging performing arts instruction for students in grades 6-8
  • Design lessons that develop creativity, artistic expression, communication, and performance skills
  • Provide instruction in areas such as: ? Theater and dramatic arts
  • Music appreciation and performance
  • Public speaking and presentation skills
  • Movement and stage presence
  • Improvisation and creative expression
  • Performance production and technical theater
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Foster student confidence, collaboration, and self-expression through performance-based learning 

Performance & Production 

  • Plan and coordinate student performances, showcases, assemblies, and other school-based events
  • Provide students with opportunities to demonstrate learning through performances and presentations
  • Teach rehearsal techniques, performance etiquette, and audience engagement
  • Support students in developing stage presence, vocal projection, and performance confidence
  • Assist with basic stage production elements such as props, costumes, sound, lighting, and set design as appropriate 

Collaboration & School Engagement 

  • Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and administrators to integrate performing arts across the curriculum
  • Support interdisciplinary projects that connect the arts with language arts, social studies, world languages, and other content areas
  • Participate in school-wide events, celebrations, and community engagement opportunities
  • Work collaboratively with families and staff to support student success 

Classroom Environment & Management 

  • Establish and maintain a structured, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
  • Promote respect, teamwork, and responsible participation
  • Maintain a safe classroom environment during performances, rehearsals, and movement-based activities
  • Ensure proper care and organization of instructional materials, equipment, costumes, instruments, and performance spaces 

Assessment & Communication 

  • Assess student growth through performances, projects, presentations, and other authentic assessments
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and achievement
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff regarding student performance and participation
  • Provide timely feedback that encourages student growth and artistic development 

Program Development 

  • Support the development and growth of Odyssey's performing arts program
  • Assist in selecting instructional materials and resources aligned to curriculum goals
  • Stay current with best practices and emerging trends in arts education
  • Promote appreciation for diverse artistic traditions and cultural perspectives 

Professional Responsibilities 

  • Demonstrate professionalism, strong organizational skills, and effective communication
  • Participate in professional development and contribute to a collaborative school culture
  • Support school-wide initiatives and the overall mission of Odyssey Charter School
  • Perform other duties as assigned
