Job Summary

In alignment with CIMโ€™s Mission, Vision and Institutional Learning Goals, the Manager of Faculty Relations assists with the administration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), supports advancement and promotes accountability for Bargaining Unit Faculty Members (BUFMs) and non-unit faculty, ensures that BUFMs and non-unit faculty can perform their roles at the highest levels, and facilitates compliance with the Instituteโ€™s CBA, policies, procedures and guidelines relative to faculty. While a member of the Academic Enterprise, this position works closely with the Office of People and Culture and in alignment with their policies and processes, as well as the Employee Handbook.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate healthy communication and relationships among/between faculty and management.
  • Work closely within the Academic Enterprise and with the Office of People & Culture to help administer the CBA, ensure BUFM compliance with its terms, develop and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accuracy, and equitably apply relevant policies to both BUFMs and non-unit faculty, specifically:
    • Manage review, observation, evaluation, promotion, reappointment, and individual negotiation processes, in conjunction with the Office of the Provost, Office of Academic Affairs, Office of People & Culture, and Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Operations.
    • Manage contract and load sheet processes for resident and guest faculty, with oversight from the Assistant Vice President of Operations, and coordinating with the Office of People & Culture and Business Office to ensure accurate and timely payment.
    • Support the operations of the Labor Management Committee and other relevant bodies.
    • Support the assignment of teaching studios, consistent with the CBAโ€™s terms.
  • In partnership with the Office of People & Culture:
    • Coordinate logistics for faculty searches.
    • Support faculty orientation and onboarding processes.
    • Plan or support educational programming and training sessions.
    • Contribute to the review and development of faculty policies and procedures.
  • Support faculty meetings and events.
  • Participate in collective bargaining negotiations and grievance procedures as directed.


Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in music, arts administration, human resources, or a related field.
  • 3โ€“5 years of experience in collective bargaining and/or labor relations, in either higher education, orchestras, opera companies, and/or other relevant educational or performing arts organizations.
  • Experience in labor contract administration, grievance processing, performance management, mediation, and disciplinary remediation.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiar with trends and best practices in higher ed, labor relations and law, and classical music.
