Job description

The New England Conservatory, an independent not-for-profit institution, is recognized internationally as a leader among music schools, educating and training musicians of all ages from around the world. With approximately 750 music students representing more than 40 countries, NEC cultivates a diverse, dynamic community for students, providing them with performance opportunities and high-caliber training by 225 internationally esteemed artist-teachers and scholars. NEC pushes the boundaries of making and teaching music through college-level musical training in classical, jazz, and Contemporary Improvisation. It offers unique interdisciplinary programs such as Entrepreneurial Musicianship and Community Performances & Partnerships that empower students to create their own musical opportunities. As part of NEC's mission to make lifelong music education available to everyone, the Division of Expanded Education delivers training and performance opportunities for children, pre-college students, and adults.

Reporting to the Director of Digital Strategy and Operations, the Enrollment Marketing Manager is an integral member of the Marketing and Communications team, dedicated to bringing NEC’s enrollment goals to life.

In this role, you will drive the execution of effective, multi-channel campaigns that engage and convert prospective students across NEC's undergraduate, graduate, and Expanded Education programs.

This position combines hands-on ownership of our email marketing and CRM communication tracks with a deep understanding of NEC’s unique offerings. By serving as the team's resident expert on academic programs, recruitment timelines, and applicant audiences, you will ensure our marketing initiatives are perfectly synchronized with enrollment needs.

This hybrid role allows for a combination of remote and work on NEC’s Boston campus.

Essential Functions

  • Campaign Execution: Translate strategic enrollment goals into organized, actionable marketing campaigns across both the College (BM, MM, DMA, dual-degree) and Expanded Education (NEC Prep, Adult Education, and Summer Programs).

  • Email Marketing & CRM Ownership: Own the day-to-day execution, building, testing, and deployment of prospective student communication tracks within enrollment systems (e.g., Slate), managing automated email campaigns, nurture sequences, and inquiry workflows.

  • Enrollment Collaboration: Partner closely with the College and Expanded Education enrollment teams to align marketing efforts with vital institutional milestones, including application deadlines, audition schedules, registration windows, and financial aid timelines.

  • Resident Program & Audience Expert: Support the broader Marketing team’s work across web, social media, and paid advertising by providing deep institutional knowledge regarding NEC’s academic programs, students, and influencers.

  • Channel Coordination: Collaborate with internal content creators, designers, and multimedia teams to coordinate, review, and distribute high-impact digital and print assets tailored to specific recruitment efforts.

  • Web Content Management: Execute regular updates and maintenance of enrollment-focused web pages, ensuring content is accurate, timely, and optimized for the student journey.

  • Performance Tracking: Monitor, track, and report on campaign analytics (e.g., email open/click rates, form fills, landing page conversions) to optimize active campaigns and share operational insights with leadership.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience related to Marketing, Communications, Business, Music or Performing Arts.

  • 2–4 years of relevant experience in any of the following: marketing, admissions/enrollment, youth/community arts program recruitment

  • Proficiency in email marketing and CRM platforms (Slate experience preferred); direct experience building communication flows and email templates

  • Ability to absorb complex institutional details (program requirements, timelines, audience segments) and translate them into organized marketing outputs.

  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with a track record of managing moving parts and hitting strict deadlines.

  • Strong written communication and proofreading skills, with the ability to write engaging, clear copy for email campaigns, web pages, and print materials.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; a natural collaborator who excels at building relationships and acting as a connective bridge between different departmental cultures.

  • A background in or passion for music and the performing arts is highly preferred.

NEC is an Equal Opportunity Employer that recruits and hires qualified candidates without regard to race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, disability, or veteran status.
