Hook Music

New York, NY • Remote

Full-time

Job description

About Hook

Hook is a social music platform, backed by top-tier investors, building the next generation of music discovery, fan expression, and creator growth. We turn the songs people love into sounds they can play with — enabling fans and creators to reimagine music through intuitive, remix-friendly experiences with zero learning curve. By partnering directly with artists, labels, and rightsholders, Hook ensures music is discovered, shared, and expressed in ways that respect and reward the people behind it. At Hook, music isn’t just consumed — it’s experienced, expressed, and made personal.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Product Designer to lead the Studio experience, while also contributing across the broader product as needed.

This is our most complex and differentiated surface - where creators make content using licensed music, video clips, and AI-powered tools. You will shape a cohesive creation experience that balances intuitive, consumer-friendly workflows with the depth and flexibility needed by more advanced users. In addition, you’ll develop tools and product experiences for partners such as producers, labels, and artists.

You will operate across mobile and web surfaces, ensuring a consistent and thoughtful experience as users move between creation, consumption, and management workflows. You’ll also flex into adjacent areas when needed, partnering across growth, monetization, and core product to help build a seamless, end-to-end user experience.

This role is remote or hybrid for candidates applying from the NY metro area.

What you’ll do
  • Own and drive design for the Creator / Studio Platform across mobile and web

  • Design end-to-end creation workflows, from first-time use to advanced editing and publishing

  • Balance simplicity and creative power, enabling both casual creators and power users

  • Translate product goals and user insights into clear, high-quality design solutions

  • Explore multiple directions, prototype quickly, and iterate based on feedback and data

  • Partner closely with Product and Engineering to shape solutions and ensure high-quality execution

  • Go deep on interaction design and craft to elevate the overall experience

  • Ensure consistency and cohesion across surfaces, contributing to a shared design system

  • Support adjacent areas, including cross-platform journeys and partner-facing tools for labels and artists

Required Skills & Experience
  • 4–7 years in product design, ideally in consumer or prosumer products, with a background in complex workflows or creative tools (e.g. video, audio, design, or AI tools)

  • Strong product thinking - able to identify the right problems and drive solutions end-to-end

  • Experience designing complex workflows or tools (e.g. creative tools, editors, marketplaces, or multi-step flows)

  • Strong interaction design skills and attention to detail, especially in complex or high-frequency user flows

  • Experience designing across mobile and web, with the ability to adapt experiences appropriately across platforms

  • Ability to explore multiple directions and converge on clear, high-quality solutions

  • Comfortable prototyping quickly to communicate ideas and validate concepts

  • Strong systems thinking, with a focus on consistency and cohesion across the product

  • Experience collaborating closely with Product and Engineering in a fast-paced, iterative environment

  • Ability to apply and extend brand within product experiences in a way that feels natural and scalable

  • Comfort using AI tools to support exploration, iteration, and design workflows

Nice to have

  • Experience working in startups

  • Experience contributing to or building design systems

  • Interest in music, content creation, or creative ecosystems

Why this role matters

This role will shape how creation happens at Hook — the core of the product experience. You’ll define how creators turn ideas into content, balancing simplicity with creative power across mobile and web. Your work will directly impact what gets created, how it flows through the platform, and how the ecosystem grows. As an early designer, your influence will extend beyond features — helping set the bar for product quality, craft, and how design operates as the company scales.
