What does a music agent do?

A music agent represents artists, bands, or musicians and works to secure live performance opportunities such as concerts, tours, and festival gigs. They negotiate contracts, fees, and logistics with promoters, venues, and event organizers on behalf of their clients. Music agents also help build artists' careers by finding new opportunities, expanding their fan base, and sometimes advising on branding and publicity. Their main goal is to maximize exposure and revenue for the artists they represent.

How does a music agent typically collaborate with artists and promoters to secure performance opportunities?

A Music Agent acts as a key liaison between artists and event promoters, negotiating contracts and coordinating logistics for live performances, tours, and festivals. They regularly communicate with both parties to understand the artist's brand, goals, and availability, ensuring that opportunities align with both creative direction and commercial interests. Agents must also stay updated on industry trends and maintain strong relationships with venues and promoters to maximize booking potential. This collaborative process requires excellent negotiation skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of both the artist's needs and the marketplace.

How much does a music agent get paid?

Music agents typically earn a commission of 10% to 15% on the income they help secure for artists, such as concert fees and royalties. Their overall income depends on the number of clients and deals they negotiate, with experienced agents in major markets earning higher commissions and salaries. Some may also receive a base salary or retainer fee, especially in larger agencies.
