Mission San Luis, a 64-acre living history museum located in Tallahassee, Florida, is seeking an engaging and detail-oriented General Services Specialist-SES (Visitor Services Supervisor) to oversee the Mission's visitor services operations including directly managing the El Mercado retail store and supervising the rental program. The perfect candidate will be an integral member of the Mission's management team working to provide superior customer service and successful retail operations. This position will supervise four OPS positions and one Career Service Position. This is a full-time SES position with an annual salary range of $46,000-$50,000.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent with four years of related experienceย ย ย ย 
  • At least two years of full-time experience in retail, visitor center management, venue rentals, customer service, or similar field, Or
  • A bachelor's degree in business, hospitality, marketing, retail merchandising or another field, and
  • Two years of full-time experience in a supervisory roleย ย ย ย ย ย ย 
  • Resume and relevant cover letter detailing applicant's experience in retail, which includes a description of the work performed.
  • Able to work weekendsย ย ย 

Preferences:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, hospitality, marketing, retail merchandising or related field
  • Experience working as a merchandise buyer and product developer.
  • Experience working in a museum gift shop or in a museum or similar institution

Duties:

Supervises part-time and full-time OPS positions and a Career Service position. Performs routine supervisory administrative duties, including but not limited to: establishing and monitoring staff work objectives and workload; training or arranging training for employees; evaluating the work performance of employees; conducting routine staff meetings to assure coordination of work; approving timesheets and leave requests; and administering disciplinary action where necessary.

Manages a retail sales operation, including vending services within the visitor center.ย  Prepares annual and seasonal budgets and sales targets and goals.ย  Meets specific revenue projections. Researches and develops new inventory, including MSL logo stock; ensures that inventory is stocked in a timely manner. Merchandises the shop in order to maximize sales. Trains staff and volunteers in retail concepts, customer service, and ensures that they are familiar with the stock. Conducts a yearly inventory and works to reduce shrinkage. Maintains shop's integrity through adherence to the guidelines of the Mission San Luis mission statement and those of the Museum Store Association.

Responsible for Visitor Services at Mission San Luis, including but not limited to the following duties and responsibilities:

Directs the oversight and daily operational functions of a 20,000 sq. ft. visitor center, with a museum shop, ticket sales counter, theater, exhibits, rental facilities and public restrooms. Ensure that staff and/or contractors fulfill obligation to keep the facility clean, safe, and welcoming. Safeguards that all operations at the visitor center fulfill Mission San Luis' mission and reflect its values.

Manage admission sales, visitor orientation, and visitation development activities.ย  Responsible for the quality of the first point of contact with potential visitors via telephone, website, email, and face to face interaction through customer services skills and training for all staff.ย  Ensure that all ADA requirements are met and that all visitors have equal access to the site.ย  Engages in visitor development activities, including research and contact of potential tour groups, motorcoach providers, etc. Ensures that all direct reports and volunteers are conversant about Mission San Luis policies, collections, programs, and activities to be better able to serve the public. Prepares tickets, brochures, flyers, and other collateral materials. Ensures that inventories of printed items are available when needed. Directs the membership program including development, promotion, and operations.

Oversees the Mission San Luis rental program ensuring that all policies and procedures are followed in a timely manner. Ensure that all rental revenue is collected, processed, and returned as required following established financial procedures. Directs the rental manager and team to ensure they are successful and comply with established rental program policies.

Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
