The Field Museum Housekeeping Team plays a vital role in maintaining the quality and beauty of our historic building for visitors and staff. The housekeeping team is responsible for ensuring consistently clean, well-maintained areas within the public and administrative areas of the museum.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Vacuuming

  • Damp wiping

  • Sanitizing bathroom fixtures

  • Mopping floors

  • Special project work as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

  • Previous housekeeping/janitorial experience preferred, but not required

  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds

  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods

  • Ability to bend and reach

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

  • Ability and experience using various tools, products, and equipment

  • Ability to work independently and on a team

  • Professional demeanor and appearance, with a willingness to assist visitors and staff when approached. Ability to maintain a professional and respectful demeanor while working in public and staff areas

Working Conditions:

Indoor setting encompassing exhibit halls, office areas, and other support spaces; work is performed during museum operating hours, including a pre-opening period of approximately two hours. Position requires extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting. Work may involve exposure to dusty environments while using cleaning equipment and products.

Supervision Received:

Receives direct supervision from the 2nd shift manager and the 2nd shift supervisor.

Supervision Exercised:

The position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Hours and Shift:

40 hours per week. 2nd shift: 3:00 PM 11:30 PM

Other working conditions:

Pay Range: $19.42/Hour, and eligible for an additional $1.00 shift differential for 2nd shift.
