What are museum housekeepers?

Museum housekeepers are specialized cleaning professionals responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and preservation of museum spaces, including galleries, offices, and public areas. Their duties may include dusting display cases, vacuuming floors, cleaning restrooms, and handling emergency spills, all while adhering to strict conservation protocols. Museum housekeepers play an essential role in providing a safe and welcoming environment for visitors and staff, as well as supporting the long-term care of collections.

Museum Housekeepers often work around delicate and valuable artifacts, requiring specialized cleaning techniques and an understanding of conservation protocols. Additionally, their schedules may be shaped by public hours and special events, requiring flexibility and careful planning to minimize disruption to visitors and programs.
