The Role:
The Area Director of Engineering is responsible for all administrative, financial, and operational aspects of the hotel's engineering division, ensuring the property is maintained safely and operated profitably. This highly visible leadership role works closely with the hotel's, senior, and corporate leadership teams, while also communicating with ownership regarding capital expenditure projects. The position reports directly to the General Manager's and plays a key role in supporting the overall success of the hotel.
Key Responsibilities
  • Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service
  • Maintain positive communication with other departments at all times and when issues arise keep appropriate teams informed of progress
  • Lead and manage the day-to-day activities of the Maintenance department and ensure all standards are followed at both departments
  • Supervise and train all Engineering staff in Customer Service, Empowerment, Standard Operating Procedures and Loss Prevention Standards.
  • Create, approve and post all Engineering staff schedules according to Hotel standards
  • Oversee ongoing maintenance, repair and preventative maintenance in the hotel with a focus to improve efficiency, profitability and service levels
  • Co-ordinate renovation and capital projects, managing outside contractors as required
  • Prepare and manage the annual maintenance budget, monitor of the Budget on a monthly basis; complete P&L responsibility for the department and assist in the preparation of the capital plan
  • Establish and fine tune a complete preventive maintenance program for Guest Rooms and equipment. Incorporation of the program into a facilities management software package, which tracks the work order system and scheduled maintenance needs
  • Follow purchasing procedures for all inventory needs and maintain the required physical inventory pursuant to the maintenance program and unanticipated emergencies.
  • Ensure the hotel in in compliance with all government regulations pertaining to building code requirements, health, fire and life safety programs.
  • Review ongoing service contracts ensuring superior performance and competitive pricing.
  • Monitoring energy and water management programs to ensure cost effective use of utilities.
  • Actively participate in energy conservation and safety programs
  • Balance operational, administrative and Guest needs
  • Follow departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with the Americans Disabilities Act (ADA)
  • Follow all safety policies
