Job Summary
The Department of Journalism and Mass Communications at Savannah State University invites applications for a one-year full-time temporary faculty appointment beginning August 1, 2026. The position carries a full teaching load (12 credit hours per semester) in journalism, public relations, social media, and multimedia and digital communication.
NOTE: In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required eligibility verification form upon hire. This position does not offer sponsorship for employment visas.
Responsibilities
  • Teach twelve (12) credit hours of undergraduate courses each semester in areas related to journalism, public relations, and social media, with a focus on multimedia approaches.
  • Contribute to program assessment, curriculum development, and accreditation.
  • Support student advisement and mentoring.
  • Engage with departmental committees and student organizations, including the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) or related groups.
  • Maintain active engagement with professional practice in public relations and new media.
  • May be required to perform job related duties not specifically delineated in this description.
Required Qualifications
  • A Master's degree or Ph.D. in Mass Communications or a closely related field.
  • Strong emphasis on technology, particularly in video editing and multimedia software (Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent).
  • Teaching experience in undergraduate courses related to journalism, strategic communication, or new media.
  • Evidence of effective teaching and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence applications in communication.
  • Familiarity with virtual and augmented realities in media contexts.
  • Ability to teach additional courses, such as video production.
  • Professional industry experience in public relations, social media management, or strategic communication.
Proposed Salary
Commensurate with qualifications and experience, ranging from $54,000-57,000.
