Position Summary

The Office of the Provost seeks a highly motivated Graduate Assistant to support strategic communications initiatives that engage faculty, staff and students with university priorities and institutional initiatives. Working as a member of the Provost Communications team, the Graduate Assistant will help create compelling digital content that strengthens engagement, promotes university initiatives, and supports an informed and connected campus community. The Graduate Assistant will also collaborate with the Graduate College Marketing and Design Graduate Assistant on shared campaigns, events and institutional initiatives, providing opportunities for cross-functional teamwork and coordinated storytelling across the Office of the Provost and Graduate College.

This position provides graduate-level experiential learning through hands-on involvement in strategic communications planning, digital storytelling, social media management, photography, video production, editorial writing, and project management. The Graduate Assistant will collaborate with experienced communications professionals while developing a portfolio of work that demonstrates advanced communications competencies and prepares them for careers in higher education communications, marketing, public relations, or related fields.

Position Terms: 
•    The position runs through the 2026-2027 academic year with the option for renewal. 
•    20 hours per week during the academic year.  
•    Compensation includes Graduate Assistant stipend. Eligible students may also receive the Graduate Student Health Insurance (GSHI) Award in accordance with UC policies.  
•    Must maintain good academic standing and meet all UC Graduate Assistant eligibility requirements.  
•    Some evening and weekend hours may apply.

Primary Responsibilities

The Graduate Assistant will assist in the planning, creation and execution of strategic communications initiatives by:
•    Developing engaging content for the Office of the Provost's digital communication channels, including the intranet, newsletters, websites and social media platforms. 
•    Writing feature stories, announcements, profiles and other editorial content that highlights university priorities, faculty accomplishments, staff initiatives and student success. 
•    Producing and editing short-form videos, photography, and other multimedia content for digital distribution. 
•    Supporting social media planning and content creation.
•    Conducting interviews and gathering information from faculty, staff and university leaders to support storytelling efforts. 
•    Assisting with editorial planning, content calendars, and project coordination. 
•    Monitoring communication analytics and audience engagement to inform future content strategies. 
•    Collaborating regularly with the Graduate College Marketing and Design Graduate Assistant on shared communications initiatives, campaigns and events, including coordinating content development, visual assets and storytelling opportunities.
•    Collaborating with campus partners to ensure communications are timely, accurate, and aligned with institutional messaging. 
•    Performing other communications-related duties as assigned. 

Minimum Requirements
  • Must be registered for at least twelve graduate credit hours each quarter of the academic year. Must meet eligibility criteria published by graduate programs that make awards and appointments.
  • Enrolled as a full-time graduate student in a University of Cincinnati graduate program: Communication, Professional Writing, or Marketing.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong storytelling and editing abilities with attention to detail.
  • Experience creating content for social media and digital communication platforms.
  • Basic photography and video production/editing skills.
  • Familiarity with content management systems, Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud (or similar creative software).
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a professional team.
