Job description

Overview

Gray Matter Logic is a technical consultancy specializing in ERP implementation for the construction and manufacturing industries. We serve blue-collar rooted industries that value directness, grit, and expertise — and our content needs to earn respect from that audience while also getting cited as authoritative by the AI search engines our prospects are increasingly using.

You are our Knowledge Engineer and Story Miner. You extract expertise directly from our consultants, translate complex ERP logic into human-centric narratives of transformation, and use AI to scale written output without losing the brand's blue-collar directness.

The Setup (Read This First)

This is an embedded role with an unusual structure, and it's the biggest filter for fit. You will be physically embedded at Gray Matter Logic, a technical consultancy that implements ERP systems for construction and manufacturing firms. Your desk is there. Your interviews, your source material, and your daily texture come from there. But you report to Paige Black, a marketing agency, for strategic direction, deliverable standards, and career mentorship.

When priorities conflict, Paige Black has final say on what you ship and when. Gray Matter Logic owns your access and your subject matter. If that sounds like a clear, workable split to you, keep reading. If it sounds like two bosses and a headache, this isn't the role.

Core Responsibilities

Story Mining & Knowledge Engineering

  • Conduct regular interviews with Gray Matter consultants to extract source-of-truth insights. Find the narrative — the specific frustrations, human conflict, and ultimate triumph — hidden inside complex ERP implementations.
  • Synthesize interviews into long-form blogs (1,500+ words), white papers, and case studies using AI tools (Claude, Gemini) as drafting partners. Own the technical polish that keeps our voice direct and jargon-free.

Editorial Operations & Organization

  • Own the editorial calendar across blogs, white papers, case studies, videos, email drips, and social carousels. Track concurrent deliverables and hit deadlines without hand-holding.
  • Stage and publish assets in Webflow. Ensure pages are mobile-responsive, performant, and visually cohesive.
  • Manage HubSpot email automation and nurture campaigns that translate technical features into stories of business impact.

Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)

  • Structure all written content so it gets cited by AI search engines and LLMs as the primary authority in our niche.
  • Stay current on how answer engines evaluate source authority and update our content strategy accordingly.

Project Management

  • Run the content production pipeline end-to-end: intake requests from Paige Black and Gray Matter Logic, scope deliverables, set realistic deadlines, and communicate status proactively.
  • Coordinate across stakeholders — consultants for source material, Paige Black for review cycles, external contractors when needed — without requiring a producer to chase anyone down.
  • Maintain a single source of truth for project status (Asana, Notion, or similar) so both orgs can see what's in flight, what's blocked, and what's shipping this week.
  • Flag risks early. If a deadline is going to slip or a story isn't panning out, you raise it before it becomes a fire.

Multimedia Production (Supporting)

  • Capture expert interviews using on-site camera and lighting equipment. Produce 90-second shorts and 3+ minute deep-dive walkthroughs.
  • Use AI tools (Descript, ElevenLabs, Runway, Midjourney) to automate editing, voiceover, and B-roll generation.

Required Skills

  • Adaptability Under Fire: When a draft gets torn apart in a Tuesday review, you have a revised version by Thursday — not a defense of the original.
  • Organized Under Load: You can run an editorial calendar with 15+ active deliverables across multiple formats without anything falling through the cracks.
  • Outgoing & Interview-Ready: You build rapport quickly with technical experts, ask sharp follow-up questions, and know when to shut up and listen.
  • Storytelling Intuition: You can find the hook in a technical conversation and explain why a change matters to a human being, not just what the change is.
  • AI Writing Orchestration: Expert-level prompting. You use LLMs as a drafting partner without letting them flatten the brand's directness.
  • Technical Writing: You write for an executive audience while keeping a grounded, empathetic tone that resonates with construction and manufacturing leaders.
  • Operational Platforms: Familiarity with HubSpot (automation/email) and Webflow (CMS) strongly preferred.
  • Production Fundamentals: Foundational videography, lighting, and framing. You don't need to be a cinematographer, but you can run a shoot solo.

Cultural Alignment

  • Direct Communication: We operate with radical candor. You take feedback, pivot in real time, and move at pace without ego.
  • AI-First Mindset: You orchestrate AI tools, not just use them. We expect a volume and quality of output that traditionally requires a much larger team.
  • Technical Curiosity: You're willing to dive into the nuts and bolts of ERP software to understand how our clients actually work.
  • Outgoing by Default: You're comfortable walking up to a busy consultant's desk, asking pointed questions, and earning trust with technical experts who don't have patience for fluff.

What Success Looks Like

  • First 30 days: You've interviewed every consultant at Gray Matter Logic, shipped your first blog, and built your AI prompt library. Paige Black's feedback cycle is getting shorter.
  • First 60 days: You're running an editorial calendar, have two case studies in flight, and a HubSpot nurture sequence live. You've produced at least one short-form video.
  • First 90 days: Our content is getting cited by AI search engines. Gray Matter consultants are proactively bringing you stories instead of you chasing them. You're operating without daily check-ins.

Onboarding

Joint onboarding across both orgs. Paige Black covers marketing strategy, brand voice, AI workflows, and deliverable standards. Gray Matter Logic covers ERP fundamentals, client archetypes, and technical immersion. Expect the first two weeks to feel like drinking from a fire hose.

Logistics

  • Location: Embedded in-person at Gray Matter Logic. Office Location: 825 E Warner Rd, Chandler, AZ 85225
  • Compensation: $65,000–$85,000, depending on experience, qualifications, and expertise.
  • Benefits include a health insurance stipend, PTO, and paid holidays.
