JOB TITLE: 

Media Assignment Coordinator, Student Media  

JOB PURPOSE: 

Support the day-to-day coordination of Student Media's editorial operations by organizing assignments, monitoring production workflow, facilitating communication across media platforms, and helping ensure timely, high-quality content. This position also assists with mentoring student contributors and promoting collaboration among print, digital, broadcast, and multimedia teams.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Coordinates assignments for writers, photographers, videographers and multimedia contributors.
  2. Tracks deadlines, assignment progress, and production workflow.
  3. Helps organize editorial meetings, planning sessions and coverage schedules.
  4. Facilitates communication between print, digital and broadcast teams.
  5. Assists with breaking news coordination and special event coverage.
  6. Helps ensure timely completion of stories and multimedia projects.
  7. Assists with mentorship and onboarding of student contributors.
  8. Supports quality control and adherence to editorial and production standards.
  9. Attend weekly meetings with the Supervisor and Student Staff.
  10. The assignment coordinator is required to work in the office no less than 20 hours each week. The times must be posted and followed.  At least 15 of the 20 hours must be between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.      
  11. Serve as a direct line to adviser, sales manager, production coordinator, and business manager when the coordinator is unavailable. 
  12. Serve as a contact person with Communication and Journalism Department.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Must be a currently enrolled University of Wyoming student with a minimum 2.5 GPA. 
  2. Demonstrated organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines. 
  3. Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  4. Ability to work collaboratively with students from diverse backgrounds and across multiple media platforms. 
  5. Basic understanding of news production workflows and journalistic ethics. 
  6. Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet publication and event coverage schedules.
  7. Must be available to start work Aug. 24, 2026.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Experience coordinating assignments or leading teams. 
  2. Experience with editorial planning, project management, or newsroom production workflows. 
  3. Familiarity with content management systems, collaborative project management tools, and/or Adobe Creative Cloud. 
  4. Experience in print, digital, photography, video, audio, or social media production. 
  5. Demonstrated ability to mentor and support other student staff members.
  6. Knowledge of AP Style, media law, and journalistic ethics.
