Essential Job Duties
The Associate Director is a member of the Leadership Team for Prevention Services and will serve as a resource and consultant to all staff and the campus community. The Associate Director is required to perform administrative duties including assessment, offer leadership in psychoeducation, suicide prevention, and general outreach, provide direct service to students, consult with university faculty/staff, and participate in supervision and training. This person will assist in developing, revising, and maintaining policies and procedures to ensure adherence to best practices and legal and ethical codes. This person will be responsible for the coordination of teams and committees and will directly offer administrative supervision for permanent staff members, graduate assistants, or temporary or student workers. There is an expectation that Directors will assist in hiring, training, supervising, and consulting with all staff, including trainees, as needed.
This staff member serves on the Administrative Team, along with the current Directors in the department. The Associate Director will supervise Prevention Services operations in the absence of the Director. Members of the Administrative Team will be expected to be available for after-hours postvention support, submit reports and/or data to the Director as requested and will serve on committees within and outside of the Center as required.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
Training & Outreach Administration
  • Oversee suicide prevention and outreach program including developing and offering comprehensive outreach and consultation services to faculty, staff, students, and families via in-person and multimedia presentations.
  • Coordinate and deliver training in QPR (Question, Persuade, & Refer Suicide Prevention) and other prevention programs to the campus community.
  • Oversee the coordination of AOD and Recovery, including grant administration.
  • Coordinate the completion of the DAAPP (Drug and Alcohol-Free Schools) and Biennial Report for alcohol prevention and education
  • Assist in development of outreach emphasis positions based on training and content area needs.
  • Supervise Mental Health Ambassador program.
  • Maintain contracts with Impact, BASICS, eCheckup, Vector, or other AOD and Outreach platforms used by Prevention Services, including IT and budget oversight.
  • Coordinate on-going postvention needs in collaboration with the Counseling Center.
  • Participate in the after-hours postvention and case review rotation
  • Serve as primary back-up for outreach events needing coverage (occasional evening and weekend hours required for outreach).

Direct Student Support & Case Management
  • Conduct behaviorally and clinically informed one-on-one assessments to identify and mitigate barriers to student success, including self-harm and threat assessment.
  • Provide timely and appropriate referrals to internal and external support services.
  • Coordinate intervention plans with university and off-campus resources to resolve student concerns.
  • Monitor and track individual cases and student progress to ensure compliance with recommendations and address emerging issues.
  • Manage re-entry strategies for students returning from psychological hospitalization.

Administration & Supervision
  • Supervise staff in documenting student concerns and action items accurately in the Maxient and Impact.
  • Ethically assess data collected about students of concern to develop and maintain best practices.
  • This position will directly supervise 3-5 permanent staff members.
  • Engage with and supervise interns, graduate assistants, and temporary employees.
  • Maintain current licensure through CEs and attend additional trainings offered by the university
  • Assist in assessment and report writing for the department.
  • Oversee office operations when the Director is not available.
  • Perform other duties within the scope of a prevention specialist, as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling
  • Hold current full clinical licensure in NC or able to obtain this licensure status within six months of hire
  • Minimum of five years of post-licensure experience

Other Required Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including both oral and written communication in a variety of settings
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems and use sound judgement and reasoning to make crucial decisions autonomously
  • Demonstrated experience in providing individualized support for students in crisis or who have been identified as exhibiting concerning or worrisome behaviors
  • Ability to establish collaborative relationships with campus and community partners

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of case management systems (preferably in a higher education setting), and/or experience working as part of a case management support team
  • Demonstrated history of effective collaborations across a complex array of multiple agencies within a university setting
  • Strong working knowledge of various federal and state laws affecting issues of privacy and confidentiality, disability accommodations and support, and response to sexual violence
  • Experience with supervision of staff and training
  • Broad knowledge of best practices and current national trends related to higher education case management
  • Experience with grants and report writing
