Director of AI

Full-time

Re-posted 4 days ago

Job description

The Director of AI is responsible for leading EXOS IT's artificial intelligence department, delivering AIdriven
outcomes for both EXOS internal operations and our client base. This role builds and leads the
team that designs, integrates, and supports AI solutions across our service lines, manages the
department's budget, headcount, and performance, and partners closely with our Enterprise, Municipal,
Cyber, and PMO leadership to embed AI into how EXOS works and how our clients are served. The
Director of AI works closely with other department heads and reports directly to the Managing Director.

Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the EXOS AI department, with full accountability for departmental budget, staffing, vendor
spend, and performance against growth and quality targets.
* Build and manage a team of AI engineers, integration specialists, and consultants. Recruit,
develop, and retain talent in a fast-moving discipline.
* Define and execute EXOS's AI strategy across Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, and emerging
platforms - selecting the right model and tool for each use case.
* Design and deliver AI-driven engagements for clients, including discovery, solution design,
integration, deployment, change management, and ongoing support.
* Architect data pipelines, API integrations, agent workflows, and automation patterns that connect
AI to client business systems and EXOS service tooling.
* Partner with Sales, Customer Success, and account leadership to identify, scope, price, and win AIled
client work.
* Serve as EXOS's senior AI advisor to client executives - running discovery workshops, leadership
briefings, and roadmap sessions.
* Establish governance, security, privacy, and responsible-use frameworks for AI usage at EXOS and
at our clients, aligned with our cyber posture and client compliance obligations.
* Define and track KPIs for AI adoption, productivity gains, quality, and revenue impact. Report
results to the Managing Director and leadership team.
* Drive internal AI adoption - embedding AI into EXOS operations, service desk, PMO, sales, and
finance to lift productivity and margin.
* Stay current on the AI vendor and regulatory landscape, evaluate new platforms, and represent
EXOS as a credible AI voice with clients, partners, and the market.

Qualifications:
* Education & Experience: You bring 8+ years of progressive IT, consulting, data, or cybersecurity
experience, including 3+ years leading teams. Substantive hands-on AI experience required, ideally
in a consulting, MSP, or professional-services environment.
* Proven Leadership: You have built and led cross-functional engineering or consulting teams,
fostering accountability, mentorship, and continuous improvement. You can hire, develop, and
retain technical talent in competitive markets.
* Hands-On AI Capability: Production experience with Claude, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Copilot,
including prompt engineering, agentic workflows, retrieval-augmented generation, and at least
one orchestration or agent framework. You can still ship code and own integrations end-to-end.
* Data & Integration: Strong data architecture skills (structured and unstructured), pipeline design,
vector stores, and REST / GraphQL / webhook integration patterns. Comfortable working across
identity, authentication, and secure-by-design integration.
* Broad IT & Cyber Background: Working knowledge of MSP service models, IT operations,
networking, endpoint, identity, and cybersecurity controls. Conversant in NIST, ISO, CJIS, and
similar frameworks. You can hold your own in a CIO or CISO conversation.
* Consulting & Client-Facing Skills: Strong executive presence. You can run a discovery, design a
solution, scope a deliverable, present to client leadership, and own the outcome.
* Commercial & Financial Acumen: Track record of growing a department or practice. Comfortable
owning budget, forecasting, headcount planning, vendor selection, and unit economics. Able to
make data-driven trade-offs between cost, speed, and quality.
* Strategic Planning: You have built and executed multi-year capability plans that aligned to broader
business goals - scaling a team, launching a new offering, or productizing a capability.
* Client-Centric Mindset: You translate AI capability into measurable client outcomes. You prioritize
client value over technology novelty.
