What Is an MRP Controller?

An MRP controller ensures that a production or manufacturing facility has the proper materials to complete an order. As an MRP controller, your primary job duties involve planning and securing the raw materials for products. You also monitor inventory, review orders, and consult with other departments about sales, logistics, and shipping. The career typically requires a bachelor’s degree in economics, engineering, or a related field. You may also need prior experience in supply chain management, production planning, or customer order scheduling. Additional qualifications include strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with SAP technology.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an MRP Controller, and why are they important?

To thrive as an MRP Controller, you need a solid understanding of supply chain management, inventory control, and production planning, often supported by a degree in logistics or a related field. Proficiency in MRP/ERP systems like SAP or Oracle, along with knowledge of Excel, is typically required. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are vital soft skills in this role. These abilities ensure accurate materials planning, prevent production delays, and support efficient operations across the organization.

What are some common challenges MRP Controllers face when balancing production schedules and inventory levels?

MRP Controllers often encounter challenges in synchronizing production schedules with fluctuating demand and maintaining optimal inventory levels. Unexpected supplier delays, last-minute engineering changes, and inaccurate demand forecasts can disrupt carefully planned schedules, requiring quick adjustments and effective communication across departments. Successfully navigating these challenges demands strong analytical skills, adaptability, and close collaboration with purchasing, production, and logistics teams to ensure materials are available without overstocking or causing bottlenecks.

What are MRP Controllers?

MRP Controllers are professionals responsible for managing and coordinating the material requirements planning (MRP) process within a manufacturing or production environment. They ensure that the right materials and components are available at the right time to meet production schedules, while minimizing excess inventory and costs. MRP Controllers analyze production needs, monitor inventory levels, and work closely with procurement, production, and logistics teams to optimize the flow of materials. Their role is crucial for maintaining efficient operations and timely delivery of products.

Job description

About Us

At our core, we’re a team that designs, builds and delivers premium wood doors to the residential market — and we do it with craftsmanship, care, and commitment. As a privately held company with two operating divisions (manufacturing and company-owned distribution), we’re proud of our strong industry reputation and trusted relationships.

We believe great businesses are built on quality, trust, and people. Our employees, customers, and partners are everything.

This is an exciting time to join us — a time to help shape the next chapter of a company with high standards, deep roots, and big aspirations. If you value a dynamic environment with fun people and want to be part of a growing company that’s as ambitious as it is grounded — we’d love to talk.

The Opportunity

We’re seeking a Controller to lead our accounting and financial operations. In this role, you'll be a critical member of our leadership team, helping the business operate with clarity and confidence.

This is not a “keep the lights on” job. This is a role for someone who loves the numbers, sees the story behind them, and knows how to build the structure and systems that bring financial clarity to a growing company.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop and maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, inventory valuation methods, and product costing processes.
  • Produce financial reports, dashboards, and analysis to support leadership in decision-making.
  • Lead the monthly close process and deliver accurate, timely financial reporting across all business entities.
  • Develop and manage budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking processes in partnership with operations.
  • Maintain and enhance use of QuickBooks and our custom MRP system, ensuring efficiency and reliability.
  • Manage and optimize cash flow while overseeing all reporting and compliance related to banking and lender relationships.
  • Manage a small accounting team and oversee payroll and benefits administration through our PEO partner.
  • Coordinate with external CPA on financial statements and tax filings.
  • Oversee special programs such as our customer co-op and property-related accounting.
  • Drive ongoing improvement in accounting systems and support future ERP evaluation and implementation.
What You Bring
  • 7+ years of accounting leadership experience, ideally in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and multi-entity reporting.
  • Deep experience with inventory accounting and product costing methods.
  • Proven ability to establish and lead management accounting processes as well as lead a high-performing accounting function.
  • Experience managing cash flow, banking relationships, and lender compliance.
  • Hands-on QuickBooks experience; comfort with custom or home-grown MRP systems.
  • A love of numbers — you don’t just report them, you interpret and explain the story behind them.
  • A collaborative leader who communicates well and builds trust across teams.
  • Experience in the wood products industry is a plus.
Why You’ll Love It Here
  • You'll make a direct impact and help build something meaningful.
  • You'll work closely with smart, motivated, good people — without corporate red tape.
  • You'll join a company with a strong foundation, a great reputation, and a vision for growth.
  • You’ll be valued for your leadership, your ideas, your positive attitude and your integrity.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive compensation package commensurate with experience
  • Performance-based bonus potential
  • Comprehensive benefits including health insurance, 401(k), and paid time off
  • Additional perks and benefits offered through our PEO partner
  • A culture that values impact, trust, and professional growth

This is a great role for someone who loves the work and wants to contribute meaningfully to a company with momentum — and a future full of opportunity.
