What is an MRI Python developer?

An MRI Python developer is a professional who specializes in using the Python programming language to work with Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) data. They typically develop software tools and scripts for processing, analyzing, and visualizing MRI scans, often for research, medical imaging, or diagnostic purposes. Their work may involve using specialized Python libraries such as NiBabel, Nipype, or PyTorch for image analysis and machine learning applications in neuroimaging or radiology. MRI Python developers often collaborate with researchers, radiologists, and data scientists to facilitate the interpretation of complex imaging data.

What is the difference between Mri Python vs Mri Technician?

AspectMri PythonMri Technician
Required CredentialsProgramming skills, certifications in Python, possibly healthcare ITRadiologic technologist certification, ARRT registration
Work EnvironmentSoftware development, healthcare IT settings, research labsHospitals, imaging centers, clinics
Employer & Industry UsageHealthcare IT companies, research institutionsMedical facilities, diagnostic imaging providers

While Mri Python involves programming and software development skills used in healthcare IT and research, Mri Technicians focus on operating MRI machines and patient care in clinical settings. Both roles are essential in the MRI field but serve different functions and require distinct qualifications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an MRI Python developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an MRI Python developer, you need a strong background in Python programming, image processing, and a solid understanding of MRI physics or medical imaging concepts, typically supported by a degree in computer science, biomedical engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with technical tools such as NumPy, SciPy, NiBabel, and specialized MRI analysis packages like FSL or SPM, as well as experience with data visualization and version control systems, is highly valuable. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills are crucial soft skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and interpreting complex data. These combined skills ensure the development of accurate, efficient software solutions for advanced MRI data analysis and contribute to high-quality research or clinical outcomes.

How does an MRI Python developer typically collaborate with radiologists and data scientists in a healthcare setting?

MRI Python developers often work closely with radiologists and data scientists to design, implement, and optimize software tools for processing and analyzing MRI images. Collaboration involves translating clinical needs into technical requirements, developing image processing pipelines, and ensuring data integrity and compliance with healthcare standards. Regular meetings and code reviews help align software solutions with research and diagnostic goals, fostering a multidisciplinary environment that advances both technical and clinical outcomes.

Job TitleElectromagnetic R&D Engineer - MRI (Latham, NY)Job Description

Electromagnetic R&D Engineer - MRI (Latham, NY)

Design and innovate cutting-edge superconducting magnet systems that power advanced medical imaging, solving complex engineering challenges with real-world patient impact. Bring your deep electromagnetic expertise to a highly collaborative team where your work directly drives performance, reliability, and next-generation healthcare technology. This role is located in Latham, NY (just North of Albany, NY).

Your Role:

  • Design optimal solutions for a superconducting magnet as part of a sophisticated medical device, applying advanced technical expertise and strategic thinking by interpreting complex engineering requirements. Delivers high-quality results aligned with regulatory and performance standards with minimal supervision.

  • Diagnoses and resolves complex technical challenges through root cause analysis and experimental process to prevent production disruptions. Apply advanced problem-solving methods.

  • Develops and oversees comprehensive test plans and validation protocols to ensure design integrity and compliance. Uses rigorous testing and feedback to continuously refine and improve product performance and reliability.

  • Evaluates and approves vendor-supplied components and technologies, ensuring alignment with quality, performance, and strategic objectives. Builds and maintains strong internal and external partnerships to influence project outcomes and innovation.

  • Leads continuous improvement by implementing best practices, mentoring junior engineers, and communicating insights to senior stakeholders. Drives process optimization, enhances team capability, and accelerates time-to-market while ensuring adherence to company standards.

You are a fit if:

  • You have 5+ years of experience in electromagnetic design and analysis for large scale superconducting magnets, electric motors, generators or other electrical machines; this role will not focus on small electronics or antenna design.

  • You have experience with superconducting magnet design, operation, and component development, including coils, cryogenic systems, and supporting structures using advanced electromagnetic design tools (Opera, ANSYS Maxwell). Knowledge of magnet stability and performance considerations in high-field applications is preferred.

  • You are experienced in using magnetic materials to shape and optimize magnetic fields and improve system performance. Ability to apply electromagnetic theory to real-world engineering challenges.

  • You have experience conducting combined electromagnetic and mechanical force/stress analysis for magnet systems and working with engineering tools such as ANSYS, Opera-3D, and CST. Ability or willingness to learn to write your own software using C++, C#, and/or Python.

  • You demonstrate strong collaboration and adaptability, with the ability to learn new tools and technologies quickly, communicate complex technical concepts clearly, and contribute effectively in cross-functional engineering environments.

  • You must be able to successfully perform the following minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation for this position.
