Mri Python information

What is an MRI Python developer?

An MRI Python developer is a professional who specializes in using the Python programming language to work with Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) data. They typically develop software tools and scripts for processing, analyzing, and visualizing MRI scans, often for research, medical imaging, or diagnostic purposes. Their work may involve using specialized Python libraries such as NiBabel, Nipype, or PyTorch for image analysis and machine learning applications in neuroimaging or radiology. MRI Python developers often collaborate with researchers, radiologists, and data scientists to facilitate the interpretation of complex imaging data.

How does an MRI Python developer typically collaborate with radiologists and data scientists in a healthcare setting?

MRI Python developers often work closely with radiologists and data scientists to design, implement, and optimize software tools for processing and analyzing MRI images. Collaboration involves translating clinical needs into technical requirements, developing image processing pipelines, and ensuring data integrity and compliance with healthcare standards. Regular meetings and code reviews help align software solutions with research and diagnostic goals, fostering a multidisciplinary environment that advances both technical and clinical outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an MRI Python developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an MRI Python developer, you need a strong background in Python programming, image processing, and a solid understanding of MRI physics or medical imaging concepts, typically supported by a degree in computer science, biomedical engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with technical tools such as NumPy, SciPy, NiBabel, and specialized MRI analysis packages like FSL or SPM, as well as experience with data visualization and version control systems, is highly valuable. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills are crucial soft skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and interpreting complex data. These combined skills ensure the development of accurate, efficient software solutions for advanced MRI data analysis and contribute to high-quality research or clinical outcomes.

What is the difference between Mri Python vs Mri Technician?

AspectMri PythonMri Technician
Required CredentialsProgramming skills, certifications in Python, possibly healthcare ITRadiologic technologist certification, ARRT registration
Work EnvironmentSoftware development, healthcare IT settings, research labsHospitals, imaging centers, clinics
Employer & Industry UsageHealthcare IT companies, research institutionsMedical facilities, diagnostic imaging providers

While Mri Python involves programming and software development skills used in healthcare IT and research, Mri Technicians focus on operating MRI machines and patient care in clinical settings. Both roles are essential in the MRI field but serve different functions and require distinct qualifications.

Job description

MRI Technologies has an exciting opportunity for a Research Software Engineer on the JETS II contract at NASA Johnson Space Center. You will support the Flight Sciences Laboratory (FSL), one of JSC's primary computing facilities-over 800 nodes, 26,000 cores, and 10+ petabytes of storage serving more than 1,000 users. The analyses running on FSL infrastructure support nearly every major NASA program, including International Space Station (ISS), Orion, Space Launch System (SLS), Commercial Crew, Lunar Gateway, and Human Landing System.
A Day in the Life
Your responsibilities will include partnering with FSL users to evaluate and optimize the group's software development practices and ensure the success of their projects. You will participate in the planning and major development efforts on software engineering projects for flight software, guidance and navigation, and analysis. You will work closely with partners and external contractors to meet their software requirements and address bugs. A core part of the role is acting as a mentor for good software development and engineering practices in HPC environments, helping FSL users get the most out of the cluster's tools and workflows in support of the NASA human spaceflight mission.
What We Are Looking For
Requirements:
  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field, with 5-10 years of related experience (or a BS degree plus 4+ years of software engineering experience outside of the degree); license and certification may be required
  • Experience programming in multiple programming languages, including compiled and interpreted languages, and the use of build systems like GNU Make
  • Demonstrated experience with version control (Git), containers, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD)
  • Experience working daily in a Linux OS, including using a command line interface (CLI)
  • Experience helping other users in HPC services
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, task planning, and effective communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment

Preferences:
  • 6+ years of experience in addition to the degree
  • Experience developing software for use in HPC environments
  • Experience with Monte Carlo type workflows and optimizing them for use in HPC environments
  • Experience with Trick-based simulation workflows and related toolsets
  • Experience with modern software practices such as test-driven development, Agile development, generative AI coding assistants, and a firm knowledge of software development lifecycles
  • Experience integrating C++, Fortran, Python, and shell-based workflows in HPC or simulation environments
  • Demonstrated experience with MPI-based workflows
  • Activity within the broader open-source software community
  • Demonstrated experience with Podman in HPC environments
  • Demonstrated experience with GitLab and Jenkins tools

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on your experience and business needs, we may consider candidates at any level for which the position is advertised.
