Job description

Job Summary
Youth Sports Event Staff serve as building and/or stadium personnel in the operation, engagement, and supervision of Youth Sports Events. Applicants must have current MPS School Safety or Event Staff training/certification. Applicants must be available Saturdays, with some weekday opportunities. Hours are dependent on team registration.
The Youth Sports Office is currently looking for Event Staff for the Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons. Event Staff training will be provided if needed.
Position Summary
  • Provide safe environment for teams, participants, and spectators.
  • Assist with crowd control and maintain order within the facility.
  • Assist with scanning and entry control operations.
  • Ancillary support to Building/League Director with all crisis intervention, game management, and potential hostile situations.
  • Assist with providing general direction and instructions to spectators.
  • Set-up crowd control and safety equipment.
  • Provide secure and safe dressing facilities for visiting teams and officials.
  • Assist with the staging of pre-game and post-game activities.
  • Follows, administers, and implements all Milwaukee Public Schools and Milwaukee Recreation policies and rules.
  • Understand and abide by all policies and procedures outlined in the Part-Time Employee Manual.
  • Have the physical ability to set up/break down sites as needed.
  • Maintain a safe and organized environment.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.

Supervision Required
  • Works under the direction of the Youth Sports Supervisor and Building/League Director at their assigned work site.

Job Requirements
  • General knowledge of MPS Athletics or Youth Sports safety procedures.
  • Current MPS School Safety certification.
  • Successful completion of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
  • Working knowledge of conflict-resolution and situational management.
  • Able to meet the scheduling needs required for this position.
  • Behave and appear in fair, consistent, and professional manner.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • 1 st Aid/CPR/AED Certifications (training will be provided if needed).
  • Ability to attend all MANDATORY applicable in-service trainings.

Preferred Experience
  • Previous work experience in a public setting with a diverse population.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of MPS Athletics or Youth Sports safety procedures.
  • Patience in dealing with stressful situations.
  • Must be a team player with a positive, service-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with participants, officials, coaches, patrons, community members, other staff, and support staff.
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships with coworkers and part-time Milwaukee Recreation staff.
  • Ability to participate interactively with a diverse group of youth.

Working Environment
This environment includes walking, climbing, standing for long periods of time, and possible loud noises when exposed to activities in the gym or similar environment. Staff will be required to supervise groups of children and adults as well as assist in the accommodation of children and/or adults with disabilities (within parameters of provided training).
