Job description

Position Title: Groundskeeper
Reports To: Director of Buildings and Grounds
Department: Buildings and Grounds
FLSA Status: Non- Exempt
Employment Status: Full time
Position Summary:
Responsible for performing day-to-day operations to maintain and preserve the campus grounds in a way that enriches campus beautification and positively promotes the mission of Mount Mary University. Will work independently under the supervision of the Director of Buildings and Grounds.
Primary Responsibilities:
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Maintenance of campus grounds to include athletic fields, planting beds, gardens, impervious surfaces, walking trails, etc.
  • Responsibilities will include mowing, weeding, trimming, backpack blowing, mulching, planting, pruning, trimming, watering, edging, dividing plants, amending soils, aerating, leaf removal, seeding, composting, tilling, fertilizing, tree trimming, shoveling, snow removal and de-icing of surfaces, patching, striping, rolling, diagnosis and proper treatment of pests and diseases, painting, etc.
  • Seasonal preparations such as installation and removal of snow fences, picnic tables, park benches, athletic field equipment, hoses, container plantings, etc.
  • Responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of grounds-keeping equipment, tools, golf carts, and campus vehicle fleet. Ensure equipment is in safe/proper working condition, replace worn parts and maintain parts inventory as appropriate and within budget, call or send in equipment/vehicle when major repairs are needed. Maintain maintenance records accordingly.
  • Maintenance of exterior campus signage, monuments, reflecting pool, and fountain.
  • Event set up and tear down for campus functions.
  • Monitor and track department expenses and budget.
  • Obtain program funding from outside the University through solicitation and grant writing.
  • Maintain campus garage in a neat and orderly fashion that is compliant with all codes and regulations.
  • Survey campus on a regular basis to identify needs and ensure quality control, provide management with proposed solutions and cost analysis for approval to move forward.
  • Supervise assistant groundskeeper employee(s) and other volunteers.
  • Communicate effectively and display a professional manner when interacting with individuals inside and outside the MMU Community.
  • Interact with the campus community in a positive manner.
  • Supplement building maintenance crew as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.

Skills and Experience:
  • Minimum of 1-year of landscape maintenance experience.
  • Ability and willingness to work in all types of weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Motivated and ability to work independently and under minimal supervision.โ€ข
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to use the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to build professional rapport, effectively lead a team and positively influence diverse groups

Physical Demands:
