Job description

About Us

Cambium is a modern American wood manufacturer, distributor, and technology company connecting and modernizing the wood economy. We work with architects, builders, and leading brands across the built environment, including Amazon, Room & Board, and Equinox. Our work has been recognized by Time's Best Inventions and Fast Company's Innovation by Design Awards. Technology is how we match supply to demand across a fragmented industry.

The American hardwood industry has lost more than half its sawmills in the last two decades. Quality trees go to waste, and the US imports more lumber than it produces, even though domestic capacity could meet nearly all of our needs. Until now, this industry forced a choice: local relationships or national scale, meaningful materials or modern efficiency. We don't think those are real tradeoffs. We're building the infrastructure to prove it, with modern software, better supply chains, and a clear view of what comes next: a wood economy that's local, efficient, and built to last.

About This Role

As a Tech II Molder Machine Operator you will be in charge of running and maintaining our Weinig Powermat 700 as part of a high-volume wood processing line. This role is essential to producing high-quality fencing, decking, and siding profiles. You’ll oversee the safe and efficient operation of the machine, taking extra care to ensure the quality of material being profiled. This role is ideal for a focused, driven person with an eye for detail and safety.

What You’ll Do Here

  • Set up, operate, and monitor the Weinig Powermat 700 molder to produce accurate and consistent wood profiles.

  • Install, align, and adjust cutting heads, tooling, feed rollers, and fences according to production specifications.

  • Read and interpret production orders, profile drawings, and measurement requirements.

  • Inspect raw materials and finished products for defects, accuracy, and surface quality.

  • Use calipers, gauges, and other measuring tools to verify dimensional tolerances.

  • Make real-time machine adjustments to maintain product quality.

  • Perform basic machine maintenance

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.

  • Support continuous flow in the fencing, decking, and siding production line.

  • Coordinate with upstream and downstream stations to ensure efficient throughput.

  • Record production data, downtime, and material usage accurately.

Your Skill Sets and Capabilities Include

  • Experience operating a wood molder (Weinig Powermat experience strongly preferred).

  • Strong understanding of milling, cutting geometry, feed speeds, and wood behavior.

  • Ability to read technical drawings and use precision measuring tools.

  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot minor issues.

  • Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.

  • 1-3 years of experience in operating a molder.

Preferred:

  • Experience in a fencing, decking, or siding manufacturing environment.

  • Knowledge of Weinig grinding and tooling systems (e.g., Rondamat).

  • Forklift certification or willingness to obtain one.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50-70 lbs regularly.

  • Ability to stand, bend, and move throughout a busy production environment for long periods.

  • Comfortable working around noise, dust, and large industrial equipment (PPE provided).

The Details

  • This role will report to: Michael Sheets, Senior Operations Manager

  • When: September 1, 2026

  • Where: Columbia, MD

  • Salary Range: $70-100k, depending on years of experience and expertise

Benefits and Perks

  • Equity options package

  • PTO and flexible schedule

  • 401k matching

  • Comprehensive medical, dental & vision insurance

  • Work with an incredibly smart, diverse, climate mission-driven team

  • An opportunity to play a core role in defining our fast-growing company

  • Volunteer tree planting days

Cambium is committed to building an inclusive organization that reflects the diverse communities our team works to serve. We believe that diversity in all its forms (gender, race, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, religion, veteran's status, disability and more) is essential to imagining and actively building a more just and sustainable future for all. We hope you feel welcome here. Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.

Compensation Range: $70K - $100K
