Motor Vehicle Mechanic
Location: Oak Ridge, Tennessee - Department of Energy
Type: Non-Exempt
Work Schedule: Full-Time, Day Shift
Compensation: $23.64 - $23.64 per hour

Tessera is seeking a hardworking and motivated Motor Vehicle Mechanic with a positive attitude.
Typical duties include but are not limited to:
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections, overhauls and repairs automotive and engineering equipment including passenger-carrying vehicles, light and heavy trucks, trailers, Safeguards Transporter Trailer, Armored Tractor, Escort Vehicles, Support Vehicles and other equipment.
  • Work involves diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required; replacing worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts; grinding and adjusting valves; rebuilding carburetors; overhauling transmissions; and repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems.
  • Use operator hoists, wrenches, gauges, cutting torches, grinding wheels, and other general or specialized machines, gauges and tools.
  • Perform work requiring the reading of prints, electrical diagrams, and maintenance instructions applicable to the craft.
  • Ensure accurate and efficient replacement of parts and makes repairs and/or adjustments to equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records required during performance of job duties.
  • Ensure that all parts used are properly charged and that exchanged items are turned in to the storeroom or properly disposed of.
  • Responsible for safe operations and proper care of materials, tools and equipment, and the maintenance of good housekeeping in the Vehicle Maintenance Facility.
  • Ensure compliance to applicable Quality Assurance Programs.
  • Responsible for maintaining a knowledge of applicable Federal, State, DOE, Corporate and Site rules and regulations, Labor Agreements and Site-wide operating policies and procedures.
  • Participate in worker involvement including input to work planning and methods to identify hazards and controls.

Qualifications:
  • CDL A preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Automotive Maintenance or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Must complete one ASE Certification per year until the title of Master Mechanic is achieved, once the title of Master Mechanic is obtained it must be maintained thereafter.

Physical Requirements:
Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.
  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.
  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.

Requirements:
  • A Valid State Driver's license is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera's insurance company.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access. A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.
