This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. FTT will require proof of status prior to employment.

General Job Summary:

The Motor Engineer will have responsibility for the requirements definition, design, analysis, procurement, and test of permanent magnet or induction motors associated with gas turbine engines and components. The engineer may also be responsible for the specification and integration of 3rd party motors and controllers into test applications.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Applies knowledge of electromagnetics and turbine engine systems to develop component requirements documents.
  • Integrates first order designs into system level trade studies in coordination with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Designs and assists with the development of new or modified electromagnetic motor or generator designs.
  • Supports system level integration, design, analysis, and documentation of electromagnetic machines.
  • Integrates optimization techniques to come up with optimal multidisciplinary system solutions.
  • Assists with 3D CAD modelling and product definition for motors or generators.
  • Coordinates with supply chain to acquire prototypes and production units.
  • Supports checkout, test, and qualification of prototype and production units in addition to integration with test rigs and other test hardware.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

  • Experience with 2D/3D electromagnetic design software
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD and product definition design
  • Strong experience in specifying off-the-shelf motors, generators, inverters, and test equipment
  • Experience with high-level system design
  • Ability to support hands-on rig design and testing
  • Experience with MATLAB and/or Python scripting
  • Experience developing requirements documents and analysis packages

Education and Experience:

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited school
  • 5+ years' experience in electromagnetic system design and development in gas turbomachinery or related industry

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

  • Office and/or manufacturing environment
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion (keyboarding, mouse, phones, rotating wrist, using tools/equipment)
