Position Overview:
The Regulatory Compliance Counsel supports the company's compliance management program by providing legal analysis and guidance on federal and state regulatory requirements. This role works with colleagues across departments to help ensure the company adheres to applicable regulations and contributes to the overall effectiveness of compliance operations.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal guidance on identified compliance risks and issues to support mortgage origination compliance and operations.
  • Provide legal and compliance support for regulatory examination findings, regulatory or consumer complaints, and inquiries from stakeholders or counterparties, including conducting system-level research to support response preparation.
  • Assist with development of solutions related to regulatory findings identified through examination, testing, and monitoring, including root cause of issues and associated remediation.
  • Provide legal guidance on post-close suspense items to support timely clearing of conditions, reduce compliance-related delays, and help ensure investor delivery timelines are met.
  • Provide legal support to defects causing critical loan salability issues and coordinate cross-functionally to develop corrective actions.
  • Provide compliance legal support for use of technology in originations including the Company's LOS, point of sale system, and proprietary technology solutions.
  • Draft policies and procedures to address federal and state regulatory requirements ensuring both accuracy and understandability across the organization.
  • Serve as a resource for compliance support escalations, providing timely legal analysis and practical guidance on regulatory questions.
  • Prepare legal research, memoranda, and recommendations on compliance matters for senior counsel and leadership.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in mortgage lending compliance.
  • Knowledge of federal and state mortgage lending regulations, including but not limited to Dodd Frank Wallstreet Reform Act, QM/ATR, RESPA, TILA, ECOA, HMDA, UDAAP, and SAFE Act.
  • Experience supporting compliance programs in the mortgage lending industry.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • High level of integrity and ethical conduct.
