What does a Montessori teacher assistant do?

A Montessori teacher assistant works in a Montessori-focused classroom to assist the lead teacher with activities and lessons for students. Your responsibilities as a Montessori teacher assistant are to help the teacher prepare activities and lessons for the day, monitor children as they work and play, and record observations and notes about student progress. You also communicate with parents, guardians, and families about student activities and development. Your duties may also include cleaning the classroom daily after students leave for the day, assisting the lead teacher with reports or grading, and participating in classroom and school events, field trips, and assemblies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Montessori teacher assistant, and why are they important?

A Montessori Teacher Assistant needs a foundational understanding of child development, classroom management, and ideally some coursework or certification in Montessori education.
