In this critical hands-on and leadership role, you will be responsible for leading a shift or small team of technicians, prioritizing work, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring the highest level of maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair for a variety of optical manufacturing equipment. You will play a vital role in minimizing downtime and supporting production goals by overseeing and executing both preventative and reactive maintenance tasks, serving as the primary technical escalation point for complex issues.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proven professional with a mechanical and electrical background ready to take the next step in a high-tech, fast-paced manufacturing environment. If you're a natural leader, an expert problem-solver, and thrive on teamwork, continuous improvement, and making a direct impact on daily operations, this role is for you.
Shift: Monday - Thursday 7:30am - 5:30pm
Compensation: $33.00 - 38.00/hr

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and coordinate the daily activities of the maintenance team on your assigned shift, delegating tasks and managing workflow.
  • Serve as the primary technical resource and point of escalation for complex equipment malfunctions and troubleshooting.
  • Oversee and perform the maintenance and repair of a wide range of optical manufacturing equipment, effectively balancing time between production support and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Drive the execution of installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of in-line manufacturing equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime.
  • Diagnose complex equipment issues, identify faulty components, and perform repairs using standard electronic testing tools, technical documentation, and both written and verbal instructions.
  • Inspect, service, and repair production and support equipment utilizing mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, and vacuum system technologies.
  • Develop and refine Preventive Maintenance (PM) schedules—daily, weekly, and monthly—and ensure all team members adhere to them.
  • Audit and ensure compliance with all safety procedures, including strict adherence to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance work performed using the MCCS system for tracking and reporting.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Technician in an industrial or manufacturing environment, with a minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience in a technical or maintenance setting.
  • Strong understanding of ladder logic used in PLC systems for troubleshooting. (Programming knowledge not required, but enhanced troubleshooting ability is a must.)
  • Experience with robotic equipment controlled by PLCs and legacy relay logic systems.
  • Expertise in operating or working around equipment such as scissor lifts and forklifts.
  • Advanced ability to use a multimeter to measure voltage, resistance, and capacity, including working safely around 480V power systems.
  • Proficiency with basic computer software for maintenance tracking and communication (e.g., MCCS, CMMS).
  • Thorough experience with PM systems commonly used across industrial environments.
  • Expert-level knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) safety procedures: securing energy sources including electrical, pneumatic, and spring-loaded systems to ensure safe maintenance operations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly train, direct, and document technical procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Lead or Senior Technician in optical manufacturing.
  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in a relevant field (e.g., Electrical Technology, Mechatronics).
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).

Perks & Benefits:

At Zenni Optical, people remain the heart of our mission, even as we embrace technology that moves us forward. While we recognize the immense promise of AI, we are equally mindful of its limitations and use these tools strictly to assist our Talent Acquisition team rather than replace human judgment. We utilize AI tools as a collaborative partner to create content–such as job descriptions, interview questions, and outreach messaging–and review resumes, but we maintain a firm commitment to human-led hiring where AI never makes a final decision. Every selection is determined by a member of our team to ensure every candidate is personally valued by a human rather than an algorithm.

We look forward to hearing from you!

We strive to build a diverse team of individuals with a broad range of experience and perspectives. We encourage you to apply even if you don’t feel you meet all the qualifications.

Company Description

Vision care can be surprisingly expensive. Concerned that the ability to see costs people hundreds of dollars, two visionaries founded Zenni in 2003 as one of the first online-only shops for affordable prescription glasses. They were able to provide affordable and accessible eyewear to everyone by cutting the middleman out and going directly to consumers. What started as a small, homegrown business in Northern California has morphed into the #1 online retailer in the world for eyewear with over 50 million frames sold to customers around the globe. In this journey, we continue to innovate but our commitment remains the same: Investing in vision care today means a brighter tomorrow for everyone.
