Description
The Mold Setter is responsible for safely installing, removing, and setting injection molds in molding machines to support production schedules. This role ensures molds are properly mounted, connected, and prepared for production while maintaining quality, safety, and equipment efficiency. The Mold Setter works closely with Process Technicians, Production Supervisors, and Maintenance personnel to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install, remove, and change injection molds according to production schedules.
  • Verify molds, machine settings, and auxiliary equipment before production startup.
  • Connect and disconnect water lines, hydraulic lines, electrical connections, and hot runner systems as required.
  • Perform mold clamping, alignment, and setup to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Assist Process Technicians with machine startups, troubleshooting, and process adjustments.
  • Inspect molds for damage, wear, or maintenance needs before and after installation.
  • Clean molds, platens, and work areas during mold changes.
  • Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment safely (where certified).
  • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and all company safety policies during mold changes.
  • Verify that safety devices, mold protection systems, and machine guards are functioning properly.
  • Complete setup documentation and maintain accurate production records.
  • Communicate mold issues, equipment concerns, and production delays to supervisors and maintenance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce mold change times and improve efficiency.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work environment following 5S principles.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous experience in injection molding, mold setting, or manufacturing preferred.
  • Knowledge of injection molding machines, molds, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Ability to read setup sheets, work instructions, and production schedules.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
  • Forklift and overhead crane experience preferred or willingness to become certified.
  • Basic computer skills for production reporting and documentation.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequently lift up to 50 pounds; occasional heavier lifting with mechanical assistance.
  • Stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and climb throughout the shift.
  • Work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures, noise, and moving equipment.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toe footwear.
