What does a Moffitt PRN do?

A Moffitt PRN is a healthcare professional who works on an as-needed basis (PRN stands for 'pro re nata,' meaning 'as needed') at Moffitt Cancer Center. PRN staff can include nurses, therapists, or other clinical roles who fill in during staff shortages, high patient volumes, or special projects. These roles offer flexibility in scheduling but require adaptability and the ability to quickly integrate into different teams. PRN staff play a crucial role in maintaining quality patient care and supporting the hospital’s operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Moffitt PRN?

To thrive as a PRN healthcare professional at Moffitt Cancer Center, you need relevant clinical credentials (such as RN, LPN, or allied health licensure), a solid understanding of oncology care, and experience in acute clinical settings. Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems like Epic and ongoing certifications such as BLS or ACLS are typically required. Strong communication, adaptability, and time management skills help PRN staff integrate smoothly into new teams and provide high-quality patient care on varying shifts. These competencies ensure consistent patient safety, efficient workflows, and seamless support for permanent staff in a demanding cancer care environment.

What does a typical work schedule look like for a Moffitt PRN, and how flexible is it?

A PRN (pro re nata, or 'as needed') position at Moffitt Cancer Center offers significant scheduling flexibility, as shifts are assigned based on departmental needs and your availability. PRN staff often fill in for regular employees who are on leave or during peak patient volumes, which may mean varying hours and sometimes last-minute scheduling. While this flexibility can be ideal for those seeking work-life balance or supplemental income, it does require adaptability and a willingness to work different shifts, including weekends or holidays. PRN roles also provide valuable exposure to different teams and patient care experiences, which can be beneficial for career growth within the organization.
