Job description

Job Title: Instructional Content Designer — HVAC / Skilled Trades

Department: BILT Education / Content Development

Reports To: Program Manager, BILT Education

Type: Contract

Main Location: BILT - Global Brand Support Center, Grapevine, Texas 76051

Overview

BILT Incorporated is a fast-growing software-as-a-service company revolutionizing instructions and training for consumers and professional technicians alike. BILT creates official 3D Intelligent Instructions® for thousands of products from hundreds of innovative brands and hosts them on a free mobile app. Users can manipulate interactive animations on a touchscreen, providing superior training differentiator for products that require assembly, installation, maintenance, programming, or repair. BILT’s mission is to create an experience so enabling and empowering that it turns users into promoters of the brands we serve. Our Global Brand Support Center is located in the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex between DFW airport and the Southlake Town Square.

BILT transforms complex assembly, installation, training, and maintenance processes into interactive 3D guided experiences. BILT partners with leading manufacturers, retailers, and enterprise organizations to reduce support costs, improve customer experience, accelerate onboarding, and drive operational efficiency through immersive visual instruction technology.

About the Job

BILT is building the future of skilled trades education, and we need someone who can translate complex HVAC systems, procedures, and concepts into clear, structured, learnable content. This person will design a foundational HVAC 101 course — from learning objectives to step-by-step instructional content — built specifically for the BILT platform's 3D animated instruction format.

This is a hands-on content role. You won't just write curriculum — you'll work directly with CAD and Design subject matter experts to capture real-world procedures and shape them into an experience that a first-day student can actually follow and learn from.

What You'll Do

  • Design and develop a comprehensive HVAC 101 course curriculum covering foundational systems, components, tools, safety, and core maintenance procedures
  • Write step-by-step instructional content for BILT's 3D animated instruction platform
  • Define learning objectives, course structure, and assessment criteria aligned to industry certification standards (EPA 608, NATE, or equivalent)
  • Collaborate with BILT's product and animation teams to translate written procedures into visual, animated instruction sets
  • Ensure all content meets employer and workforce standards so graduates are genuinely job-ready

What You Bring

  • Demonstrated experience designing technical or trades-based instructional content — HVAC experience strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with HVAC systems: refrigeration cycles, electrical, airflow, controls, and service procedures
  • Strong writing and communication skills — you can explain a complex procedure to someone who has never seen the equipment before
  • Experience working with subject matter experts to extract and structure technical knowledge
  • Familiarity with instructional design frameworks (ADDIE, backwards design, or equivalent)
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving, startup environment with evolving requirements
  • Experience with LMS platforms, mobile learning, or visual/animated instruction is a plus
  • HVAC industry certifications (EPA 608, NATE) or hands-on field experience is a strong plus

What Success Looks Like in 90 Days

  • HVAC 101 course outline and full learning objective map completed and approved
  • At least two complete modules of step-by-step instructional content delivered and ready for animation
  • Content validated by at least one industry partner or employer for job-readiness alignment
