What is modern acupuncture?

Modern acupuncture is a contemporary approach to the traditional Chinese practice of acupuncture. It involves the insertion of very thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate healing and relieve pain, stress, and other health issues. Unlike traditional acupuncture, modern acupuncture often incorporates scientific research, new techniques, and sometimes technology to enhance treatment effectiveness. Many clinics offer a more spa-like environment, making the experience more accessible and comfortable for a wider range of people. It is commonly used for pain management, stress reduction, and overall wellness.

Modern Acupuncture refers to a specific clinic chain offering modernized acupuncture treatments, often emphasizing wellness and convenience. An acupuncturist is a licensed healthcare professional trained in traditional and modern acupuncture techniques. While both provide acupuncture services, Modern Acupuncture clinics focus on accessible, wellness-oriented treatments, whereas acupuncturists may work in various healthcare settings offering personalized care.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Modern Acupuncturist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Modern Acupuncturist, you need a thorough understanding of acupuncture techniques, anatomy, and Traditional Chinese Medicine, typically supported by an accredited acupuncture degree and state licensure. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs) and modern sterilization equipment is important, and certification from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) is often required. Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and clear communication help practitioners build trust and effectively educate patients. These competencies ensure safe, effective treatments and foster lasting patient relationships in a contemporary healthcare environment.

What are some common challenges practitioners face in a modern acupuncture clinic, and how can they be addressed?

Practitioners in modern acupuncture clinics often encounter challenges such as balancing high patient volumes while maintaining personalized care, adapting to electronic health records, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. To address these, it’s helpful to develop strong time management skills, stay updated on digital documentation practices, and engage in regular communication with other healthcare professionals. Embracing ongoing professional development and participating in clinic meetings can also help practitioners stay aligned with the clinic’s goals and patient care standards.

Job description

Aligned Modern Health (AMH) is creating a new standard of healthcare. As the largest evidence-based holistic medicine practice in the Midwest, we operate 16 clinics across Chicago with a rapidly expanding telehealth practice that will be serving patients nationwide by the end of 2026.
Our collaborative team of over 100 doctors, nurse practitioners, and clinicians provides personalized care for men, women and children across functional medicine, hormone health/BHRT, clinical nutrition, chiropractic care, rehabilitation and massage therapy, and acupuncture.
Using advanced diagnostics, expert-led care and individualized treatments we go beyond symptom relief to target the root causes of nagging symptoms and chronic conditions. We are seeking outstanding Nurse Practitioners to join our Functional Medicine practice. We are looking for licensed Nurse Practitioners with experience practicing Functional Medicine and conducting functional diagnostic testing who want to be part of a dynamic organization committed to improving the healthcare landscape.

Our preference is to hire full-time providers but would consider part-time provider options on an individual basis (working additionally in a private practice doing similar work would not be permitted). Active IL APRN license would be required to start. Providers based in FL, MI, TN, and TX, are highly preferred.

For full-time providers, we have a starting base salary guarantee of $130K (depending on experience), as well as bonus/revenue share opportunity. We also have a robust benefits package including medical/dental/vision, 401-k, med mal, paid time off, holiday pay, and more! We manage all marketing, staffing, practice management, billing and reimbursement, as well as provide all necessary equipment.

Many of our current functional medicine providers have done extended work/training in the following: American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M), American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM), Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM), Diplomate of the American Clinical Board of Nutrition (DACBN), Functional Medicine University (FMU), and the College of Integrative Medicine (CIM) and take a data-driven approach to patient care.
Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, including medical history, physical examinations, and diagnostic tests
  • Develop personalized treatment plans based on patients' needs and medical conditions
  • Prescribe nutraceuticals and/or medications and monitor their effectiveness
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care
  • Provide counseling and education to patients on disease prevention and healthy lifestyle choices
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records using electronic health record systems
  • Stay current with medical advancements, research, and clinical trials in the fields of functional, integrative and lifestyle medicine

Requirements:

  • At least two years of experience practicing functional medicine and performing functional medicine specialty testing/labs
  • Experience in functional and integrative medicine settings preferred
  • NP/APRN - with a concentration in Functional Medicine, Hormone Health, Anti-Aging or Lifestyle Medicine
  • Providers based in FL, MI, TN, and TX are preferred
  • Must have (or be able to obtain) an IL APRN license and any remote location determined
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate and interact effectively with patients and other providers
  • Energetic and outgoing personality with a desire to help people
  • Patient first attitude and ability to consistently provide a 5-star level of service
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and ability to maintain patient confidentiality

We offer competitive full-time employee benefits, including:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield medical plans, as well as dental and vision insurance
  • Guaranteed paid time off (part-time providers are eligible for paid sick time only)
  • Malpractice insurance coverage
  • Reimbursement for outside CEUs/CMEs
  • Eligibility for short-term disability insurance and 401(k)
