What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Modeling and Simulation Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Modeling and Simulation Specialist, you need strong analytical abilities, proficiency in mathematics, and a background in computer science or engineering, often supported by a relevant degree. Expertise with simulation software (such as MATLAB, Simulink, or Arena), programming languages (like Python or C++), and knowledge of modeling standards is typically required. Critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication are essential soft skills for interpreting data and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. These skills ensure accurate models, effective simulations, and actionable insights that drive decision-making in complex systems.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in Modeling and Simulation roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Modeling and Simulation often encounter challenges such as integrating complex data from multiple sources, ensuring model accuracy, and communicating technical results to non-technical stakeholders. Addressing these challenges typically involves close collaboration with subject matter experts, ongoing model validation and verification, and using clear visualizations to explain insights. Building strong interdisciplinary communication skills and staying current with evolving simulation tools can also help professionals effectively navigate these challenges.

What are modeling and simulation jobs?

Modeling and simulation jobs involve creating digital or mathematical models to represent real-world systems, processes, or phenomena, and then using simulations to analyze their behavior under various scenarios. Professionals in this field use specialized software and computational techniques to predict outcomes, optimize designs, and inform decision-making in industries like engineering, defense, healthcare, and manufacturing. These roles often require strong analytical skills, proficiency in programming, and a background in mathematics or science. Modeling and simulation experts help organizations save time and resources by testing ideas virtually before applying them in real life.

What is the difference between Modeling And Simulation vs Data Analyst?

Job description

Job Requisition ID #
26WD94610
Autodesk Fusion
At Autodesk, we are redefining how products are conceived, engineered, and manufactured. We are seeking a Senior Principal UX Designer who operates at the intersection of UX, systems thinking, and computational design - someone who can shape the future of AI-powered product development workflows.
This role is for a designer who thinks beyond individual features or products and instead designs end-to-end systems of creation. You understand how complex physical products - and even families of products - are developed, and you are excited to reinvent those workflows for an AI-augmented future.
You see AI not as automation alone, but as a new creative medium.
What You'll Do
  • Define the UX vision and strategy for next-generation AI-powered workflows within Autodesk Fusion and related platforms.
  • Design system-level workflows that span ideation, parametric modeling, simulation, automation, and manufacturing.
  • Invent and prototype new interaction paradigms that integrate computational design, generative techniques, and AI assistance into intuitive creation environments.
  • Architect node- and graph-based automation experiences (5 years+ ) (e.g., Bifrost, Dynamo, Grasshopper-style systems) that make complex logic accessible and powerful.
  • Translate real-world product development processes - including multi-product systems and configurable product ranges - into coherent digital workflows.
  • Collaborate deeply with product, engineering, research, and data science to deliver scalable, technically grounded user experiences.
  • Contribute to a unified Autodesk design system capable of expressing multi-modal workflows (AI agents, parametric logic, 2D/3D modeling, simulation, collaboration, versioning).
  • Lead by doing: elevate teams through systems thinking, rapid prototyping, storytelling, and a strong point of view on the future of design tooling.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 15+ years of experience in UX, industrial design, mechanical engineering, or computational design.
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, UX, or related field.
  • (Preferred) Master's degree in Design, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Proven experience designing tools or workflows used in product development, industrial design, or mechanical engineering.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Parametric and generative modeling
    • Computational design systems
    • AI-assisted creation workflows
    • Design-for-manufacturing principles
  • Experience with node- and graph-based environments (e.g., Autodesk Bifrost, Dynamo, Grasshopper, or similar automation systems).
  • Experience designing workflows for systems-level or configurable product development, not just single artifacts.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical systems into clear, intuitive user experiences.
  • Strong collaboration with engineering teams building deeply technical platforms.

Ideal Candidate
  • You are a systems thinker and design leader who moves fluidly between concept and execution. You are equally comfortable discussing mechanical constraints, automation logic, and interaction patterns.
  • You understand model-based systems engineering (MBSE) principles or have worked in environments where product architectures, configurations, and automation pipelines are central.
  • You thrive in ambiguity and bring clarity through structured thinking. You can define a vision for the future of product creation - and then help make it real.

Why This Role Matters
If you are passionate about shaping how the next generation of physical products are designed - from consumer devices to complex engineered systems - this is your opportunity to help define the future workflow of design and making at Autodesk.
