Job Title:Dance Summer Intensive InstructorDepartment:Arts and Sciences | Dance

Role Overview

The Department of Dance invites an experienced dance educator to serve as an Instructor during the Department of Dance Summer Intensive. This role recognizes the individual's expertise in dance education, leadership ability, and commitment to fostering student growth in a structured classroom setting.

Nature of Role

The Instructor will take primary responsibility for planning, instruction, and classroom management for a designated group of teen dancers participating in the Department of Dance's summer programming. This role centers on delivering high-quality instruction, guiding student development, and creating an engaging and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

The Instructor will:

  • Design and lead daily dance classes and movement sessions for teen and high school-aged students
  • Develop and implement structured lesson plans that support technical skill development and artistic growth
  • Coordinate a closing performance showcase for students at the end of the program
  • Provide mentorship, feedback, and individualized guidance to students throughout the program
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and disciplined classroom environment that encourages participation and creativity
  • Monitor and supervise students during lunch periods, ensuring a safe, respectful, and organized environment
  • Collaborate with department staff and assisting instructors to ensure program consistency and success
  • Support student engagement and retention by serving as a visible and accessible leader within the program
  • Contribute to recruitment efforts by sharing professional experience and encouraging continued study in dance
  • Serve as a professional role model, demonstrating pathways into collegiate and professional dance opportunities

Required: Bachelor's Degree

Desired: Master's Level or Doctoral Degree
