Job description

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) / Digital Engineer with Cameo and/or MBSE software modeling experience to join our team working on-site in classified spaces. The primary worksite is in the Alexandria, VA area in support of the Office of the Undersecretary of War for Research and Engineering (OUSW(R&E)) Mission Integration.
In this role, you will research and develop descriptive architecture models of complex kill chains, kill webs, and effects-based solutions that reflect military employment. The models you will design enable gap analysis and highlight new technology applications, in addition to capturing key study details and informing additional analysis efforts. The architectures center on systems-of-systems modeling, spanning from the tactical to strategic levels. You will be working at the forefront of the Mission Engineering community informing modeling styles and standards, innovating usage, and driving digital engineering for systems-of-systems mission applications . You will utilize MBSE software tools (e.g., Cameo) to develop descriptive models, conduct analysis and produce deliverables that inform solutions to key operational challenges faced by our nation's warfighters, enabling mission success. This position requires collaborative teaming and offers an excellent opportunity for a modeler to work in an innovative environment at the leading edge of delivering emerging technologies and future concepts for complex warfighting scenarios.
Responsibilities:
As a Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) / Digital Engineer with MTSI, you will work as an integral member of a government/contractor team in support of our customer's organization from conceptual design and analysis to integration and testing. The team constructs, manages, and conducts discrete mission engineering and analysis study tasks to evaluate the efficacy of legacy architectures and new technologies and capabilities applied in new mission concepts of employment to meet evolving Joint mission objectives. This position will be 100% onsite in the Alexandria, Virginia area, with the possibility of local travel to customer sites and related engineering conferences/workshops.
Your essential job functions will include, but may not be limited to:
• esearch and model innovative descriptive architecture models of complex kill-chains/webs and effects-based solutions.
• Research MBSE styles and frameworks for mission engineering, contributing to developing, updating, and maintaining an architecture style guide intended to lead the broader community to standardized practices.
• Conduct in-depth analysis/evaluation of complex kill-webs to identify capability gaps, recommend potential solutions, and assess how emerging technologies influence overall kill-web effectiveness.
• Develop architectures to support the systems engineering lifecycle review of requirements, concept testing, documentation, and technology transition based on mission impacts.
• I nform selection of preferred design solutions and course of action alternatives in project development/product delivery.
• Provide review and analysis support to adjacent organizations conducting experimentation and testing.
• Brief model-based systems engineering (MBSE) architectures and related analysis outputs to OUSW(R&E) Senior Leaders, DoW Senior Leaders, and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
• 5+ years of related professional experience.
• 5+ years of experience in mission engineering, systems engineering, or operational analysis in support of defense or military areas.
• 3+ years of experience with model-based engineering approaches, Systems Modeling Language (SysML), Unified Architecture Framework (UAF), or other architecture modeling standards.
• 3+ years of experience with model-based engineering and architecture tools such as Cameo, MagicDraw, SparxEA, or similar tools.
• 3+ years of experience with mission or system functional decomposition, system-of-systems analysis, or capability gap assessment/analysis.
• Understanding of frameworks such as Unified Architecture Framework (UAF) , and modeling languages such System Modeling Language (SysML) and Unified Architecture Framework Modeling Language (UAFML).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment; present and explain technical information to colleagues, management, or sponsors.
• Knowledge or recent experience integrating systems processes and/or software development methodologies, planning, designing, and analyzing functional system processes - either hardware or software-based systems.
• Demonstrated ability to devise solutions for complex problems that require in-depth analysis of tangible and intangible factors.
• Proven ability to analyze complex issues within a diverse team and effectively present findings and solutions to stakeholders.
Desired Skills:
• Experience developing or analyzing operational and mission-level architectures (mission threads), kill chains/kill webs, CONOPs, or system-of-systems (SoS) architectures for defense or military areas.
• Proficiency using systems engineering modeling tools (e.g., Cameo Systems Modeler, MagicDraw) to support system requirements, design, analysis, verification & validation, and continuing throughout development and later life-cycle phases.
• OMG Certified Systems Modeling Professional (OCSMP), Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP), and/or other relevant UAF and SysML certifications or Graduate Certificates.
• Programming or scripting expertise (Python, Groovy, etc., for automation and model integration).
• Understanding of configuration control and database management.
• Experience conducting nodal analysis on architectures developed in Cameo.
• Experience and a demonstrated record of success in developing and implementing innovative solutions for a diverse range of highly complex multi-disciplinary problems and devising corrective actions where necessary.
Education Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related discipline.
• (DESIRED) Master's degree in Systems Engineering or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Clearance Requirements:
• Active Top Secret clearance with SCI Eligibility.
• U.S. Citizenship is required for this position
The pay range for this position is $130,000/year to $160,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on established government contract ranges, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, and other factors. MTSI also offers a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
