What is a mobile software engineer?

A Mobile Software Engineer is a professional who designs, develops, tests, and maintains software applications for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. They work with platforms like iOS and Android, using programming languages such as Swift, Kotlin, Java, or Flutter. Their responsibilities include building user-friendly interfaces, optimizing app performance, and ensuring compatibility across devices. Mobile Software Engineers collaborate with designers, product managers, and other engineers to create high-quality mobile experiences for users.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a mobile software engineer?

To thrive as a Mobile Software Engineer, you need proficiency in programming languages such as Swift, Kotlin, or Java, along with a solid understanding of mobile app development frameworks and a relevant degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with integrated development environments (IDEs) like Xcode or Android Studio, version control systems like Git, and experience with APIs are typically required, with certifications in mobile development being a plus. Excellent problem-solving, adaptability, and strong communication skills help you work effectively in agile teams and deliver user-focused solutions. These skills ensure the development of robust, efficient, and user-friendly mobile applications that meet business and user needs.

What are some common challenges faced by mobile software engineers when developing cross-platform applications?

Mobile Software Engineers often encounter challenges ensuring consistent functionality and user experience across different platforms, such as iOS and Android. Differences in device hardware, operating system behaviors, and screen sizes can lead to unexpected bugs or performance issues. Job description

Senior IT Software Engineer โ€“ AMR & Robotics

Location: Guntersville, AL | Full-Time | Senior Level

About the Role

Ready to drive the next generation of autonomous systems in smart manufacturing? We are seeking a highly skilled Senior IT Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and deployment of software solutions for our fleet of Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) in Guntersville, AL. Serving as a key technical leader, you will split your time between driving strategic software initiatives in the office and troubleshooting complex systems hands-on on the factory floor. This role is critical for scaling our robotics operations, ensuring fleet reliability, and mentoring junior engineers.

What Youโ€™ll Do

As the subject matter expert for AMR software and system integration, you will lead the architecture and implementation of scalable software for our AMR fleet, making key design decisions across navigation, perception, and control systems. You will write core software components in C++ and Pythonโ€”including algorithms for path planning, localization (SLAM), motion planning, and computer visionโ€”while managing complex software projects from concept to completion.

A significant portion of your role will involve direct factory floor engagement: working alongside operations, maintenance, and automation teams to troubleshoot complex real-time issues and resolve systemic interactions between AMRs and industrial equipment. Additionally, you will lead the integration of AMR software with enterprise platforms (MES, WMS, ERP), build data tools for fleet health monitoring, and mentor junior team members.

What Weโ€™re Looking For

We are seeking candidates with a Bachelorโ€™s or Masterโ€™s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics, or a related field, along with 5+ years of professional software engineering experience centered on robotics and automation systems. You must demonstrate expert-level proficiency in C++ and Python, extensive experience with ROS (Robot Operating System), and deep expertise in designing complex software architectures. Essential technical background includes hands-on work with Git, Linux, robotics simulation environments, industrial protocols, and industrial automation tools like PLCs and SCADA.

Preferred credentials include validated certifications in ROS or IEEEโ€™s CSDP, experience leading engineering teams, and specialized certifications in cloud platforms, AI/ML, or cybersecurity for robotics.

What We Offer

We support our senior leadership with a competitive compensation package and comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance options. You will enjoy generous paid time off (PTO) and company-recognized paid holidays to maintain a great work-life balance. To help secure your long-term financial future, we offer a robust 401(k) retirement plan with an immediate company match, alongside continuous opportunities for career growth within an expanding smart factory environment.

Work Environment & Travel

This position operates in a mixed environment spent across the active factory floor and an office setting, with light travel to affiliate locations expected at around 10%. Candidates must be comfortable working around moving machinery and maintain on-call availability for critical operational issues.
