What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mobile Software Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Mobile Software Developer, you need strong programming skills (such as Java, Kotlin, Swift, or Objective-C), a solid understanding of mobile platforms, and a relevant degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with integrated development environments (IDEs) like Android Studio or Xcode, version control systems like Git, and relevant certifications (such as Google Associate Android Developer) are typically required. Creative problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication help developers collaborate in teams and deliver user-friendly apps. These skills ensure efficient development of high-quality mobile applications that meet user needs and adapt to evolving technology.

What does a Mobile Software Developer do?

A Mobile Software Developer designs, builds, tests, and maintains applications specifically for mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. They typically work with platforms such as iOS (using Swift or Objective-C) or Android (using Java or Kotlin). Their responsibilities include writing clean, efficient code, troubleshooting bugs, collaborating with designers and other developers, and ensuring apps perform well across different devices. Mobile developers must also stay updated with the latest platform changes and best practices to deliver high-quality user experiences.

The Role:
We're looking for an experienced Mobile Software Engineer to join the Scorability team. You will be working on developing cross-platform apps that serve athletes, parents and coaches in a meaningful way. The ideal candidate thrives in early-stage, hands-on environments with an excitement for shaping the future of mobile apps within an organization. • Own complex, high-impact features end-to-end across customer-facing experiences, from idea through production
  • Lead by doing: prototype quickly, experiment often, and ship alongside product and design to solve real customer problems
  • Make strong technical decisions in ambiguous, fast-moving environments, balancing speed, quality, and long-term impact
  • Set the technical bar for mobile development through clean code, thoughtful design patterns, and pragmatic engineering standards
  • Help evolve the architecture as the product and team scale, making intentional tradeoffs between short-term velocity and long-term maintainability
  • Help establish a stable, scalable foundation using modern patterns to support a first-class mobile experience
  • Use agentic AI and modern tooling to improve code quality, speed up development, and raise overall effectiveness

Experience we're seeking:
  • 6+ years of experience in mobile software architecture, design and development, with specialty in developing React Native applications, preferably with Expo, for both iOS and Android
  • Experience with Typescript
  • Experience with relational databases, primarily PostgreSQL
  • Deep knowledge of mobile architecture, navigation, animations, state management
  • Experience building mobile products in a fast-paced environment with high code quality
  • A data-driven approach with strong results and outcome-oriented focus, understanding the value derived from rapidly shipping code and learning/iterating on the results
  • Strong empathy for our customers, and a passion for exceeding their expectations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, connecting directly and effectively with cross-functional technical and non-technical stakeholders at various levels
  • Ability to decompose complex business problems and communicate solutions succinctly
  • A passion for learning, continuous improvement, sharing, and working in a team environment
  • Independent and can manage your own projects and time with ease, all the while setting and managing stakeholder expectations
  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science / Engineering or related field, or equivalent professional experience

Perks & Benefits:
  • Stock options: become a shareholder and participate in the value we create together
  • Annual company-wide bonus based on collective success
  • Flexible Time Off + generous holidays off for a good quality of life
  • Health benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, Basic Life, STD/LTD - 100% paid for full-time Scorability employees
  • Give back: opportunities to serve through our Community Service Program
  • Paid parental leave programs so you can focus on family
  • Company paid 401k contribution of 3% to invest in your future
