West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. is a Canadian gold exploration and development company focused on restarting and expanding the historic Madsen Gold Mine in the Red Lake District of Northwestern Ontario. In addition to advancing the Madsen Mine toward sustainable production, the company is developing nearby high-grade gold deposits to support future growth. Reporting to the Mill Manager the successful candidate will work a 14 & 14 rotation and be responsible for oversees the crushing, milling and site services support teams and providing support to the crushing and milling teams. Works in an authentic and collaborative manner interdepartmentally with mining, maintenance, HR, Safety, Environmental amongst others fostering an atmosphere of cooperation to optimize overall site performance.

About the Role:

  • Leads with uncompromised safety standards by championing a risk and behavioural based safety approach.
  • Drives and represents the milling and surface operations department's reputation.
  • Ensures all activities are conducted in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Ontario "The Act") including adherence to all Environmental standards and regulations.
  • Supervise the implementation and execution of the mill plans and targets, monitoring operational and mechanical performance with corrective actions implemented to address variances.
  • Assists in the development of the overall strategy for the department.
  • Lead daily operational decision making throughout the department to deliver production commitments.
  • Ensures shift scheduling, vacation scheduling and scheduled training meet the business requirements.
  • Ensures process operating procedures and operational controls are maintained and continuously improved.
  • Ensures all required reports and records are completed and maintained.
  • Oversees all aspects of the mill and crushing operational teams from ore delivery, surface crushing, grinding (SAG & BALL), gravity recovery (Knelsons & Acacia), leaching, C.I.P., elution, to the pouring of the gold in the gold room/refinery.
    • Surface ore stockpile management including proper ore blending and feeding to the plant.
    • Care and operation of ancillary equipment including reagent management, carbon handling, surface mobile equipment, and the proper care of.
  • Other duties that may be assigned.

About the Candidate:

  • 10 years progressive leadership experience in a processing plant with specific exposure to similar aspects of the Madsen Mine Mill. (Gold CIP plant)
  • A degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field, A combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • Physically able to perform duties in the workplace and able to lead by example.
  • Strong analytical thinking, sound judgement, and decision making.
  • Experience leading organizational change specifically in safety culture, performance improvement, and effective team building.
  • Demonstrated communication skills both oral and written.

People and Team Leadership

  • Build and sustain an appropriate team through recruitment and development working closely with HR & recruitment support.
  • Develop and mentor employees throughout the department by providing coaching, meaningful & respectful feedback, succession planning and facilitating opportunities for both team and individual growth.
  • Coach and mentor employees through visible felt leadership ensuring all procedures, policies are understood and adhered to.
  • Ensures safe work practices, risk management and compliance with company and regulatory requirements by providing the resources, setting expectations, and following through.
  • Ensure effective workplace training and training records management.

  • Strong business acumen with the ability to balance people management, safety, production, problem solving and able to perform during stressful and demanding conditions.
  • Use operational data, confer with technical support using key performance indicators to troubleshoot issues or drive continuous improvement that enhance safety, reliability, production, recovery, and cost control.

  • Participate and occasionally lead business planning, budgeting, specific improvement projects.
