This role is required to be based out of Miami. If you are out of the area, please do not apply if you are not willing to relocate to the Miami area.
About Our Crew

Boats Group is the fastest-growing digital business in the recreational boating space. We are a talented team of techies, creatives, marketers, closers and customer advocates who spend each day pushing the boundaries of technology to make buying and selling boats easy. We spend each day surrounded by 500,000 boats from across the globe.
Our passion and unyielding dedication to getting people on the water influence our culture in ways you won’t find at other companies. We’re the best at what we do because we’re working in an industry we love. When you walk through our doors, you’ll find smart, dedicated people who consider one another family.
If you want to work in an inclusive, innovative environment where we encourage employees to collaborate, leverage their talents and actively shape the future of the company, then you will enjoy working here!
About The Role

As the Software Development Manager for Mobile Engineering, you will lead the team responsible for the architecture, development, delivery and operation of Boats Group’s React Native Mobile apps and our 3 million + user install-base.
You will lead and grow engineers while staying close to the code: shaping architecture, reviewing critical changes, and working directly with the team to solve difficult technical and production problems. You will own the technical direction of our mobile platform and help us evolve toward a modern, modular application architecture that can support multiple products, teams and customer journeys.
You will help define how we use React Native and Expo across the mobile lifecycle from application structure and native integrations to CI/CD, over-the-air updates, observability, performance and App Store / Google Play delivery. You will partner closely with Product, Design, Platform and other engineering leaders to translate business priorities into a mobile platform that can move quickly without sacrificing quality or maintainability.
This role is Hybrid with some days required per week in our Miami Headquarters. Our office is in the Brickell financial district that overlooks the entire city amp; ocean with breathtaking views, chock full of motorized standup desks, relaxation pods, ping pong table amp; shuffleboard in the kitchen, a zillion kinds of free coffee amp; snacks to choose from, and more!
What You’re Seeking
  • A role where you can lead engineers while still influencing architecture and contributing hands-on when it matters.
  • The opportunity to shape the next generation of large-scale React Native applications and the platform underneath them.
  • Ownership of modern mobile architecture, including modular or Superapp-style patterns, shared platform capabilities, native integrations and release strategy.
  • An environment where Expo, automation, rapid iteration and over-the-air delivery can be used thoughtfully to increase engineering velocity.
  • The opportunity to help good engineers get better and great ones continue to evolve.
  • Responsibility for some of the biggest mobile apps in our industry marketplace, including BoatTrader and YachtWorld.
What You'll Do
  • Own the technical direction and architecture of our React Native applications across iOS and Android, balancing product velocity, performance, reliability and long-term maintainability.
  • Design and evolve a modular, Superapp-style mobile architecture with clear feature boundaries, shared platform services and reusable capabilities such as authentication, navigation, analytics, experimentation, notifications and design-system components.
  • Lead our use of modern React Native and Expo, including the React Native New Architecture, Expo SDK, Expo Modules and appropriate native escape hatches when platform-specific functionality is required.
  • Define and operate a safe over-the-air update strategy using Expo Updates / EAS Update, including runtime compatibility, release channels, staged rollout, rollback and clear rules for when a native store release is required.
  • Own mobile build and release engineering, including EAS Build / Submit or equivalent CI/CD tooling, signing, App Store and Google Play releases, release automation and environment management.
  • Act as a hands-on technical leader: participate in design sessions, review critical pull requests, prototype or code high-leverage work, and jump into difficult debugging or production issues alongside the team.
  • Drive mobile performance and quality through measurable engineering practices around startup time, rendering performance, bundle size, memory use, crashes, ANRs, network behavior and overall app reliability.
  • Establish strong observability and operational practices for mobile, including crash reporting, logging, release health, analytics and rapid diagnosis of production regressions.
  • Create architecture standards and engineering guardrails for navigation, state management, data access, offline behavior, deep linking, feature flags, testing, dependency management and native module usage.
  • Work with backend and platform teams to design mobile-friendly APIs and service contracts, and with Product and Design to deliver cohesive experiences across BoatTrader, YachtWorld and future mobile products.
  • Coach, mentor and develop engineers, provide clear technical feedback, set expectations, and ensure team members have meaningful career and growth paths.
  • Continuously improve team execution and developer experience by reducing build friction, improving test automation, simplifying local development and eliminating unnecessary process.
What You Should Have
  • B.Sc. in Computer Science / related field of study or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with significant experience building and operating production mobile applications.
  • 2+ years leading or managing software development teams while remaining technically engaged.
  • Deep experience with React Native, React, TypeScript / JavaScript and the realities of shipping a shared codebase to both iOS and Android.
  • Experience architecting large or multi-team mobile applications using modular application architecture, shared packages / platform layers, monorepos or Superapp-style patterns.
  • Strong experience with Expo and the modern Expo ecosystem, including Expo SDK and EAS services such as Build, Submit and Update; experience with expo-updates is especially valuable.
  • Understanding of the React Native New Architecture and its core concepts, including Fabric, TurboModules, JSI / Codegen, and how those affect library selection, performance and native integrations.
  • Experience designing safe mobile release strategies across App Store / Google Play releases and over-the-air JavaScript / asset updates.
  • Strong understanding of mobile CI/CD, automated testing, code signing, environment management, release automation and production support.
  • Experience with mobile observability and performance tooling, including crash reporting, release health and diagnosing production performance issues.
  • Strong understanding of APIs and client/server architecture, including REST and/or GraphQL, authentication, caching, network resilience and mobile-specific API concerns.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to make architecture decisions clear to engineers, product partners and other technology leaders.
