Job Description Summary
Provides safe, accurate and efficient patient care, including but not limited to: patient assessment, vital signs, review of labs, medication review and safety, allergy verification, performs review of systems, completes medical forms, facilitates prescription refill, and performs dose verification and drug administration if needed. The clinic nurse will additionally review incoming phone calls related to patient conditions, concerns, and needs and communication the concerns, condition, or need to the provider. Collaborates with the provider to resolve the concern, condition, or needs or directs to the appropriate person for resolution. Follows all Job Breakdown Instructions associated with role.
Key Performance Areas
  • Accurately performs patient assessment, vital signs, medication reconciliation, allergy review and review of systems. As assigned, safely and accurately administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, supportive care, and non-oncologic agents to patients as ordered by providers. Will use Oncology Nurse's Society (ONS) standards and guidelines. Accurate and safe disposal of biohazardous waste, per OSHA and NIOSH guidelines.
  • Answers and/or reviews phone calls from patients, caregivers, and outside entities and uses nursing assessment skills to determine the nature of each call, its urgency, how to resolve the question/problem and to whom to direct the call.
  • Reviews patient's chart for possible adverse events related to treatment prior to discussing with the provider.
  • Effectively discuss with physician and/or nurse practitioner the steps necessary to ensure proper patient care.
  • Effectively discuss with the provider any abnormal labs or tests presented to them by other staff members so that appropriate action regarding further orders can be carried out and charted, if necessary.
  • Patient education related to medications and side effect management.
  • Documentation is thorough, accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) of treatment rendered to patients.
  • Contact emergency room when a patient is directed there, give explanation, diagnosis, and a phone number where provider can be contacted.
  • Handle prescription refill requests according to Company procedure.
  • Complete Medical Forms (FMLA, DME requests, etc.).
  • Complete annual required safety and nurse training. Always maintain and ensure the confidentiality of all patient and employee information.
  • Will be expected to work at any Company location to help meet Company's business needs on an as needed basis, within reasonable expectations. Will also be expected to work overtime when given sufficient notice.
  • Complies with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to patient privacy, patient's rights, personnel law, safety, labor, and employment law. Adheres to Company and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and procedures and Disaster Plan.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Job Qualifications and Requirements
Education
  • Nursing Degree.

Certifications/Licenses
  • Unencumbered RN License in state of employment or multi-state license.
  • Current CPR and BLS certifications.
  • Valid Driver's License and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations as needed.

Previous Experience
  • Experience with hematology/oncology patients in a clinic or hospital setting.
  • Ability to assess patient needs and condition is essential. Must have strong critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Fluency in the English language with excellent oral and written communication skills is required.

Travel: <25%
Standard Core Workdays/Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Occasional overtime may be required, and weekend shifts based on location hours and operational needs.
