As a travel MLT, or medical laboratory technician, you typically receive a temporary assignment from a staffing agency that specializes in sending MLTs to medical facilities or clinical labs in underserved communities as well as when facilities are short-staffed. You often work under a medical technologist’s supervision and support them in their tasks. Your responsibilities include handling a variety of biological samples and performing numerous tests on them to find abnormalities. Your primary duties are to collect patient tissue, blood, and fluid samples and use lab equipment to analyze the slides. Based on your findings, a doctor can diagnose diseases and recommend treatment options.
