COMPANY BACKGROUND
The Houston Dynamo Football Club (HDFC) is a multi-faceted organization dedicated to inspiring and supporting soccer participation and growth in Houston, TX and beyond. The Club's brands include men's and women's professional teams - the Houston Dynamo (MLS) and Houston Dash (NWSL), a development academy, Houston Dynamo Dash Charities, as well as Shell Energy Stadium and Houston Sports Park.
The Dynamo has a rich history of success, including MLS Cup titles in 2006 and 2007 and US Open Cup Championships (2018 and 2023.) The Dynamo is focused on building toward the next championship and inspiring and uniting the city of Houston through the sport of soccer and community outreach by creating the most inclusive sporting experience and diverse fan base in the city and state.
JOB DESCRIPTION/SUMMARY The academy assistant coaching role will work across the MLS NEXT Pro Pathway age groups (U15-U18) and will play a key role in supporting the development of the club's elite youth players within the club's academy structure. This role is responsible for assisting in the planning and delivery of high-level training sessions that aligns with the club's culture and curriculum.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborate with the team staff to plan and deliver high-quality, age-appropriate training sessions in alignment with the Houston Dynamo Academy curriculum and game model.
  • Support/assist with the matchday coaching duties, including game preparation, tactical organization, player management, and post-match evaluation.
  • Support/assist in the individual development plans for players, focusing on technical proficiency, tactical understanding, physical development, and mentality.
  • Promote a player-centered learning environment that encourages decision-making, creativity, and accountability.
  • Support/Assist with the monitoring and evaluate player performance through training, matches, and formal assessment processes.
  • Maintain accurate records, including training plans, match reports, attendance, and evaluations.
  • Assist with player identification and recruitment for academy teams when required.
  • Uphold the professional standards, values, and culture of the Houston Dynamo at all times
  • Serve as a positive role model for academy players, demonstrating professionalism, leadership, and integrity.
  • Communicate effectively with players, parents, and academy staff in a respectful and transparent manner.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development, staff meetings, and internal coach education initiatives.
  • Ability to work in non-traditional hours, evenings and weekends. Including traveling to and from games.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have high-character, collaborative, "team-first" mentality.
  • USSF B License; or foreign equivalent, preferred.
  • Prior coaching experience in elite level youth development environment - preferably within a professional academy.
  • High level understanding of player development using age and stage appropriate teaching methods.
  • Proficient with technology and able to use a variety coaching platforms (e.g., Power Point, Excel, HUDL, and others).
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
