Faculty Posting for Evansville MLS Program
The Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) Division in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine is recruiting for a faculty position in Evansville, Indiana. The MLS Division's ideal candidate is a Generalist with experience working as an MLS in a clinical laboratory as chemist and immunohematologist. However, other areas of expertise or specialization will be considered (Clinical Chemist with experience working as an MLS in a clinical laboratory, Immunohematologist with experience in a clinical or reference blood bank laboratory, or Medical Microbiologist with experience in clinical bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, serology, and/or virology laboratories).
The MLS program started in 1936 and has been operating continuously in Indianapolis since its inception. The program expanded in August 2024 with the launch of a second location at the IU School of Medicine's campus in Evansville, Indiana. The program maintains full accreditation through NAACLS (National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science).
Responsibilities:

  • Teaching classroom, laboratory, clinical courses, and online courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Participation in MLS recruitment and admissions activities
  • Scholarly activity in photomicroscopy, teaching and learning, or other endeavors that support the department
  • Service to the department, school, and university
  • Administrative duties including admissions and onboarding processes, scheduling, ordering of supplies and other tasks as directed
  • Develop a service record at the campus, state, and national levels.

  • Must have an interest in pursuing an academic career at an academic health center
  • Will have excellent interpersonal and teaching skills
  • Has strong analytical abilities
  • Has enthusiasm for both teaching and the scholarship of teaching and learning
  • Generalist with experience in a clinical chemistry laboratory and additional experience in immunohematology

Additional Information:

  • This is a 12-month faculty position.
  • Academic rank and track commensurate with education and experience.
  • Infrequent travel to the Indianapolis MLS program or travel for recruitment opportunities may be required.
  • Application materials should include a letter of interest, a current curriculum vitae, names/contact information for three references. The letter of interest should include key motivation for application, a statement of teaching philosophy, and a summary of qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • MLS (ASCP) or equivalent certification
  • Master's degree or higher. Candidates who do not possess a master's degree or higher will be required to complete a degree within 3 years of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two years of teaching experience at the college/university level
  • Experience in evidence-based and innovative teaching practices
  • Curriculum design or management/supervisory experience
  • Strong commitment to high-quality teaching
