Reports to: Grow Team Lead
Lead the Way to spiritual growth of individuals with community
The Life Groups Pastors are responsible for building and fostering Life Groups to support the spiritual growth of individuals who call Friends Church their home. This role provides pastoral leadership by leading, shepherding, and inspiring Life Groups and their members to grow in community becoming authentic Christ-followers who are compelled to change the world.

Your Mission
  • Assimilation: Collaborate with the Life Groups Team Lead and other pastors to implement a church-wide strategy aimed at engaging 70% of weekend attendees in Life Groups.
  • Leadership Development: Equip group leaders to understand and embody the churchโ€™s mission and vision, helping their group members grow as disciples of Jesus Christ.
  • Volunteer Empowerment: Facilitate ministry partners by identifying and nurturing their spiritual gifts, enabling them to thrive.
  • Launch Groups: Provide pre-group experiences to initiate and support the formation of new Life Groups.
  • Serve Opportunities: Partner with the Missions Director and Volunteer Engagement Director to provide opportunities for Life Groups to serve the church and community at least three times annually.
  • Communication and Coaching: Maintain strong relationships with leaders and coaches through effective communication and a robust coaching model.

Primary Duties
Life Group Oversight
  • Build and maintain 100 healthy Life Groups, including:
    • Married Groups (approx. 60)
      • Foster a strong community among married groups.
      • Provide training, coaching, and support for group leaders.
      • Host pre-group events to help couples connect and build community.
    • Mens (approx. 40)
      • Oversee and provide pastoral oversight.
      • Host pre-group events to facilitate group formation for targeted demographics.

Rooted Group Transition
  • Collaborate with the Groups Team to recruit and coach leaders.
  • Support Rooted groups as they become permanent Life Groups.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist in organizing Fall Campaigns in collaboration with the Groups Team Lead.
  • Develop sermon-based group guides and alternative study options and curriculum pathways.
  • Ensure leaders complete and adhere to the volunteer vetting process.
  • Teach leaders to maintain accurate group records and attendance via the Rock database.
  • Provide Godly counsel, spiritual direction, and resources for couples/families/individuals as appropriate.
  • Conduct weddings and funerals when commissioned. Must be commissioned through the Friends Southwest Denomination.
  • Participate in Friends Church staff events, programs, and training.
  • Share periodic responsibility as a Pastor on Call.

  • Spiritual Maturity: A strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a clear calling to pastoral ministry.
  • Leadership Experience: 3โ€“5 years in ministry leadership, preferably with experience in developing Life Group experiences.
  • Visionary Thinking: Ability to see the big picture and develop strategic plans for ministry growth.
  • Relational Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to connect with diverse groups of people.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in theology, ministry, or a related field (Master's preferred but not required).
  • Alignment with Friends Church: Agreement with our doctrinal beliefs and mission, and active participation in our ministries and Life Groups.
