Job description

Unit Directors directly supervise and lead an assigned age group of campers and the staff within that unit. They are responsible for creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment while actively participating in all camp activities with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.

Essential Functions
  • Actively participate in and lead portions of Leadership Staff Training and All Staff Training.
  • Take responsibility for the overall welfare of campers and staff within the unit and assist in resolving issues as they arise.
  • Communicate any camper or staff concerns to the Inclusion Specialist and/or Camp Director in a timely manner.
  • Support campers and staff in building positive relationships and successfully integrating into the camp community.
  • Ensure staff consistently follow camp policies, enforce rules, and fulfill assigned responsibilities.
  • Maintain communication with parents and relay messages to campers and staff as appropriate.
  • Conduct formal evaluations of unit staff twice during the season and support them in setting and achieving goals.
  • Address and document situations that may compromise the emotional or physical safety of any individual.
  • Plan and coordinate unit activities, evening programs, overnights, and other special events.
  • Ensure all unit areas (cabins, KYBO, dining hall sections, and Kapers areas) are clean and well-maintained.
  • Maintain awareness of campers' and staff members' dietary needs, eating habits, and health concerns.
  • Oversee the completion and collection of Parent Letters and Camper Reports.
  • Submit maintenance requests promptly as needed.
  • Instruct campers on emergency procedures, including fire, severe weather, missing person, and tag call protocols.
  • Regularly visit cabins and Coaching Periods to provide supervision and build relationships with campers and staff.
  • Serve as a Lifeguard or Lookout at the waterfront as assigned.
  • Participate in staff meetings, weekend programming, Unit On Duty responsibilities, and other assigned activities.
  • Model and teach the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Enforce all camp rules and maintain accountability among staff and peers.
  • Maintain positive relationships with parents, visitors, and the public.
  • Complete and submit all required documentation, including an End-of-Year Report, in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
