Job Description

AECOM is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Strategic Mining Engineer to provide technical leadership on complex mining projects across North America. The successful candidate will support mining projects from early-stage studies through detailed engineering and construction support while serving as a senior technical resource for multidisciplinary project teams.

This individual will work closely with project managers and engineering discipline leads to develop practical, innovative engineering solutions for mining clients. The role requires strong technical expertise, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to lead technical execution on large, complex mining projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior mining engineering technical lead on multidisciplinary mining projects.
  • Lead technical evaluations and engineering studies for surface mining operations.
  • Provide technical direction during concept studies, prefeasibility studies, feasibility studies, and detailed engineering.
  • Coordinate closely with mining, civil, geotechnical, structural, mechanical, electrical, process, environmental, and water resources engineering teams.
  • Use and mentor others in the operation of mine planning programs such as Minesight (MPSO), Deswik (Spratial-LHS-IS), Datamine (NPVS / Minemax), Vulcan or similar software.
  • Use Python programming / scripting language.
  • Perform as subject matter expert in pit, phase and scheduling optimization using Whittle, MPSO or NPVS / Minemax software.
  • Review and provide sign-off as Qualified Person (QP) / Competent Person (CP) for NI 43-101, S-K 1300 and JORC compliant reserves reporting.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, engineering calculations, specifications, and design packages.
  • Perform engineering analyses related to mine planning, infrastructure development, operational improvements, and project execution.
  • Review engineering deliverables for technical quality and compliance with applicable industry standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate mining engineers.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary design reviews and resolve technical challenges throughout project execution.
  • Support construction engineering activities, field investigations, commissioning, and operational troubleshooting as required.

Ensure engineering work complies with client requirements, industry standards, and AECOM quality procedures.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mining Engineering or related field.
  • 12+ years of progressive mining engineering experience.
  • Qualified Person (QP) / Competent Person (CP) credentials OR Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Super-user expertise in using Minesight (MPSO), Deswik (Spatial-LHS-IS), Datamine (NPVS/Minemax), Vulcan or similar software.
  • Experitse in using Whittle software.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical execution of multidisciplinary mining projects.
  • Experience supporting projects from concept through detailed engineering.
